So how much does this cost? The buy online button doesn't work.

It's a "coming soon" thing. Which means vaporware until someone actually reviews it. But at least the site is nice. And Googling Amiga led me to a couple of community sites which I'll likely sign up for.

Considering all the pictures are CGI it could be some time before it actually appears.

That said if it does finally appear I will happily buy one. :-)

My apologies...

It appears they have printed at least one prototype:

I am oddly pleased that we have reached the point where you can have retro-chic computers. Can a classic Macintosh tower system be far behind?

When [livejournal.com profile] kshandra and I were still a new couple our first computer was a C64. When people learned we had one, their immediate reaction was to give us the box of Commodore products from their closet. We literally had dozens of drives, cables, controllers, and tons of software. The C64 was a the VW Microbus of computers. Balky, needing a lot of love and attention, but it got the job done.

Ahh the memories. Actually I had a white one that was smaller. I accidentally knocked one of the keys off with my elbow one time. (It wasn't an important key at least.) Anyone else remember the gold box SSI AD&D games (this was back when there was a difference between D&D and AD&D)? I loved the Buck Rodgers game. I remember killing Buck as an NPC to get his gun then having him reappear for the last battle oblivious to our betrayal. We'd bust into the room with our rocket launchers and plasma throwers ready. Then we'd wipe out 75% of the baddies that first round of surprise.

Good times. Good times.

I wouldn't mind playing those games again. I wonder if there's a market for that.

[livejournal.com profile] gridlore and I LIVED for the Gold Box games. They've been re-released on CD...the combat sequences were actually too fast to follow. It was kinda depressing.

There are several emulators for the iPhone/iPad that let you play all the old C64 games.

Oh, most likely. There are also some excellent sites, such as Good Old Games (http://www.gog.com/en/frontpage), that have a bunch of older titles for the PC (I link here now because they're having a stupid sale, e.g., Neverwinter Nights Diamond for $6.99).

I want one.

And I hope they have a 1541 peripheral or something equivalent, so I can import all the old games I still have.

Ooh! Ooh! And the joystick too please!

Want want want want want...

The nice thing is, you can find a heck of a lot of the old games online. I'd opt for the original (and I mean original) Lemmings and Settlers, the ones that you could play -- or watch someone else play -- for days. And I keep thinking about the original Shanghai, with only one tileset, one layout, ahd the Big Finish being a dragon claw popping through the table so a huge eye could look at you. Glorious.

Tron: Legacy is in theatres now, and the Commodore 64 is coming back. Are ripped sweatshirts and leg warmers next?

Want. Don't need - just want.

And the Amiga OS is coming back? Hope this isn't all vaporware.

I did my first graphic design on a computer when I was 12, on an Atari. Printed in color, too, on one of those old okidata printers where only 1 in 4 print cartridges was properly calibrated.

Ah... those were the days. *feels the urge to sing "When I was a boy" come on*

This has been there for a year or so if I remember correctly. We'll see if it actually happens.
