Off To GenCon

Should be fantastic, if exhausting. Here's my schedule:

  • roving, 11:00-12:00
  • roving, 5:00-7:00
  • event, 10:00-11:00 (location TBA)
• Friday, 8/14
  • roving, 10:00-12:00
  • roving, 3:00-4:00
• Saturday, 8/15
  • roving, 1:00-3:00
  • roving, 6:00-7:00
  • event, 10:00-11:00 (location TBA)
• Sunday, 8/16
  • roving, 1:00-3:00

"Roving" basically means I'll be wandering the convention center and singing for 15-20 minutes in any particular location. I'll probably do a lot in the dealers' hall and the long hallway outside it, but I plan to shlep upstairs as well.

GenCon is charging two bucks for the event concerts. Sorry for that -- I'm not seeing any of it, that I know of. I'm not allowed to sell at those events, but if you mention you were at either of them at my table in the Exhibit Hall, I'll give you $2.00 off.

Some other plans have changed along the way. huskiebear is not able to join me as she had planned (everything's she just got a sudden spate of Real Life and her schedule got too crowded), and I could use a little help watching the table. A couple of nice folks have volunteered, and I thank them a lot, and if you're going to be at GenCon and you can help, please come find me.

as much as I'd love to be able to go to GenCon (someday), can't do it. Besides, Beckyeve4 and I will be attending the Soggy Potato Chips Grand Rapids wedding reception Saturday (easier for us to do than the Ft. Wayne one).

However, much as I will miss seeing you, I'll worry about you exhausting yourself. Make sure you take breaks, take a chair, take throat spray and water with you, and don't be afraid to nap in the middle of those roving blocks if you need to.

At first I was bothered by the $2 admission you mentioned, but...that's what a game session used to cost when I used to go to GEN CON in Milwaukee, and if it's advance ticket sales it insures that your room won't be overcrowded. Why...it's almost as if you were running a big reserved-seat concert like Bruce Springsteen or Hannah Montana.

I just got my schedule from Volunteer HQ and I watch your booth while you are roving except on Thur from 11 to 12.
I'll try and sneak away from handing out swag bags to let you know for sure.

I'll be up for Sunday, as I've got work the rest of the weekend, but my Seattle-area-based sister's gonna be at GenCon again, so dammit, I will drive a coupla hours to see her!

I might even be in something resembling a costume, I dunno. The Top Hat of Doom will be making its premiere, that's for sure.

If I have the time to spare (dunno yet, as I have to squish all my meetin' and greetin' in one day), I'll help with the table, but there is a big ol' hug with your name on it at the very least.
