It's still less insane and horrifying than reality. After all, in the comic she's intelligent, articulate and opposed to Big Oil...

Eh, I liked it better when it was "Reagan's Raiders".

(Us old farts probably cringed just as much when that piece of crap came out back in the 80's.) :)

If all the oil (and natural gas, I presume) was destroyed in a war, then what natural resources were the oil and gas conglomerates pillaging in Alaska? If they were mining coal, they would be stripmining West Virgina. They could be clearcutting the forests, but I would think that thetransportation costs would make that unfeasible

And for the love of all that is holy, when has Palin ever sided with keeping Alaska an idyllic place? Especially when that came in conflict with the oil & gas industry.

And why the hell am I actually wasting time trying to make sense out of the product of an extremely disturbed mind?

Now I need to check to see if my insurance covers elective lobotomies

I'm inclined to believe that this is an elaborate hoax. I mean, if it is I'd feel like such a fool for falling for such an obviously insipid product.

Btw, I was under the impression that "Steampunk" took place in the late 19th century, not well into the 21st. And (presuming this is an actual comic) it was nice that they found writers with a middle-school slept-though-class grasp of global economics and politics. And I wonder, did they plan so many pages of pinups, or did they say "we ran out of story, can you give us more cheesecake?"

Sadly, no it's not. AP has been balancing its books the last two years off of celebrity parodies. They did a four-issue miniseries- "President Evil"- featuring Obama as a zombie-fighting hero.

I used to work for that company once, back when they still did manga...

Argh, they're totally right. They got their dystopian cyberpunk in my steampunk. (That's the main stylistic difference that I see between steampunk and cyberpunk - steampunk is all about being inspired by steam technology and optimism and discovering things and making life better through SCIENCE!!!, while in cyberpunk there's less optimism and more cynicism, and you can still make life better through science but it's much harder and first you have to battle your way through corrupt corporate-owned nation-states that want to appropriate your technology. The rest - goggles, top hats, steam-powered robots, etc - is window dressing.)

The "-punk" is generally taken to be about dystopia, be it cyber-, diesel-, or steam-. This is rather obvious in, say, "The Difference Engine", by Gibson and Sterling, perhaps the seminal work in the current steampunk genre.

The optimism is these days seems to fit more under the name "gaslight romance" - all the visual style of steampunk, with more pulpy adventure, and without all the pessimism and cynicism.
