For those of us who vastly preferred Pepsi Throwback, they'll be bringing it back December 28th. For eight weeks this time. I'm willing to bet it'll be permanent by next year. Meantime, we get to stock up.

What are your favorite soft drinks? Mine are Pepsi Throwback (shoving regular Pepsi way down the list by comparison), Vernors, A&W Root Beer, and Faygo Red Pop. Haven't had that in a long time, and I think I should do something about that. :)

I rarely drink soda anymore (too much gas), but when I do... Dr. Pepper, root beer, birch beer, cream soda, maybe orange soda. I rarely drink lemon-line or ordinary cola any more.

And I miss Clearly Canadian!

Personally, I preferred the Mountain Dew Throwback; glad to see they're bringing that one back too!

Other favorites:
* Fanta Birch Beer: This was my drink of choice at the pizza place my father and I went to when I was a kid. For some reason, pizza tastes better to me with birch beer. (This is the dark kind, not the white; the white is good too, but it doesn't taste the same.)

* Schweppes Ginger Ale: especially with lime.

* Cherry Coke: caffeinated soda of choice.

I have to agree about the Dew Throwback. I'll happily risk migraines for one of those! :P

I actually am kind of limited in my soda-drinking endeavors, what with caffeine being a migraine trigger and all. I do love the following, though:

*Vernor's ginger ale: Every other ginger ale pales in comparison. (Hurr, I made a funny.)

*Dr. Pepper, various forms: Before being told that caffeine and artificial sweeteners gave me migraines, I lived on DDP, much like the beloved [livejournal.com profile] seananmcguire! Now I occasionally allow myself a Cherry Dr. Pepper, because omg.

*A local(ish) grocery store chain has some really good HFCS-free sodas. The cream soda and root beers are amazing.

Ever since high school, it had been Dr. Pepper. That's now been replaced by Coke Zero. Odder ones that I like... I love the occasional Reed's Extra Ginger Beer, and Limca, a sprite-like drink from India.

I won't drink any soda but the Throwbacks and Jones Cola. I just can't do high fructose corn syrup. It's either natural sugar or nothing with me.

Kosher Coke is also HFCS free. You can find it in some grocery stores during Passover and in most Kosher markets. :-)

Dr Pepper, without a doubt. I should start buying in Canada (trying to avoid HFCS).

I do like the Pepsi Throwback. Rand will be happy to know that it's coming back!

There's a local (Niagara Falls) company called Johnnie Ryan that makes, among other things, a really excellent cream soda--made with sugar.

I'm enjoying Pepsi Throwback, and found our local Kroger had it last time I was there and stocked up.

I miss the old style Cherry 7-Up, but they messed that up. I really love Fanta Orange. But what I really miss is old Town Club. The variety of flavors, the bottles, the price.

I really miss a drink from the mid-80's called Champagne Bruce (although I don't know if I'm spelling it right). It was an import, from what I recall, and tasted like carbonated bubble gum. :)

But more on the mainstream side of things, I grew up on Royal Crown Cola. Yep! I'm an R.C. boy for life!

I'm a fan of Pepsi and Moutnain Dew Throwback, though I prefer Mountain Dew. The pop I buy regularly, aside from those, is Jones Cola. Natural cane sugar tastes so much better that it's worth the extra money. Plus I think the natural sugar is better for a person than the high fructose corn syrup.

Good root beer (A&W is passable, better if it's on tap rather than in a regular soda fountain), Dr. Pepper, Orange Crush, Real Coke Made In Mexico From The Old Recipe In The Glass Bottle...

I wonder if the soft drink lobby is getting ready to give ADM the digitus impudicus...

I don't drink sugared sodas very often, so I probably shouldn't say that I am a big fan of original Coke.

I like most of the major brands of diet orange soda, especially Fanta, and love Dr. Brown's Diet Black Cherry (which is also relatively cheap at $1.19).

My primary drink of choice is iced tea. When I drink pop, it's always diet. In that, I prefer Coke to Pepsi, slightly prefer Coke Zero to Diet Coke, like Diet Coke with Lime and Cherry Coke Zero, and like Diet Dr. Pepper. Unfortunately, while I'm not crazy about the aftertaste of aspartame, I stick with it because sucralose upsets my stomach. I did indulge in a little regular Coke in Montreal, as the Canadians don't use corn syrup. (And they've never heard of unsweetened iced tea.)

Mountain Dew Throwback is great - reminds me of when I was little, when MD came in the green bottles with the hillbilly label - "It'll tickle yore innerds..."

Vernors hasn't been the same for many years now - I seem to remember starting to sneeze from the bubbles as soon as I opened the can, but it hasn't been like that for a while.

Even though I've lived in Virginia for FAR longer than I lived in Michigan I still consider myself a Michigan girl... so you can imagine how thrilled I've been that a couple of stores here in Richmond are FINALLY carrying Vernor's. In the gourmet soda section. How hilarious is that?

The goodness that is Faygo has not made it down south, much less the nose-tweaking awesomeness of Faygo Red Pop.

Where in Virginia? I remember being able to find Vernor's as a kid in the Newport News/Hampton Roads area. Then again, I was a military brat, so commissary access = win.

Actually I can't tell the difference between Pepsi Throwback and "normal" Pepsi. I prefer diet soda anyway.

My favorites are the Pepsi Jazz (Strawberry or Caramel) but I haven't seen them in the store for months. Are they still being produced? I also like Coke or Pepsi with Lime and Izzie sodas. It's hard to find some sodas. I wouldn't mind having more soda from the smaller companies (instead of the heavy hitters of Coke and Pepsi).

The ren faire I went to last weekend had sasperella (sp) which is interesting. I don't know if I'd call it a favorite since it has this licorice taste, but I've only seen it there so I have a glass when I have the chance.

These days I'm doing the diet/zero thing. Coke (Zero preferred to Diet), Vernors, Faygo (Rock-n-Rye,¹ Redpop, and Frosh), Dr Pepper (Diet or Diet Cherry), Sprite (Zero preferred to Diet).
________
¹   Rock-n-Rye isn't available in Diet. Dammit.

Edited to add footnote.

Tea.
If it's got bubbles and it's not beer or champagne, I tend to prefer plain seltzer.

All this talk of soda got me looking up gourmet sodas in my area. They're harder to find than I thought. I can order some online but do I want a carbonated beverage being shipped to me (with the risk of breakage)?

One other problem with sodas is how the price is going up. It used to be you could get a 2-liter for a buck on sales that happened every other week. Now those sales are becoming less frequent. And that's the only time I have soda. So if things keep going the way they are, one day I'll only have soda in a restaurant.

I'm still waiting for the return of CRYSTAL CLEAR PEPSI!

*ahem*

Seriously though, I drink all kinds of sodas. There really isn't any one brand/flavor that I won't drink (although I may prefer some over others). Currently the "new" flavors of Mountain Dew would top my list of favored soft drink, with GAME FUEL, VOLTAGE, LIMEWIRE and the unfortunately named CODE RED somewhere near the top and ULTRAVIOLET and BAJA BLAST near the bottom.

I still want to try BAWLS, the official softdrink of Geekdom. No place sells it any more though, you have to special order it from the Internet.
JONES SODA is a close second that I also want to try, plus, they entered a deal with lolCats so you get a captioned kitty on every can.

JOLT COLA was awesome. I had a can of that in Tennessee. Zing!

I also like CHEERWINE, which I hear, can only be found down south.

As for specialty sodas...have you ever drank HALLOWEEN? There's an orange and cream soda that's better, but I forget the brand name...they carry it at the Cracker Barrel. When all else fails, drink CREAM SODA.
