Below is a "heat map", showing web-based music consumption in 2010. Green means that site had positive growth in 2010 (a mouse-over will give details); red means that site had negative growth.

(h/t Jared Ringold of Possible Oscar)

There's one thing this graphic doesn't show, which you can see if you click on it: YouTube devours all. It's about three times the size of all other music sites combined. And one video out of three on YouTube is music.

You don't have to hit me in the head. Not too much, anyway.

So, what should I put up there first? Or should I just go an album at a time? (The "videos", at first at least, will be an audio track of the song, with cover art and links.)

Classics that aren't already up! 307 ale, PQR, Rocket Ride, boy and his Frog (which is already up in places, but not officially by you).

I found Fenton once, but you can do better as far as graphics.

I say see what's already up and out there by fans and make sure you hit all those spots officially. You have several people here who'd hit them right off the bat just because they're your official ones, and once the vid gets hits, it gets noticed by the search engines more. :)

Yes! This!

When I was putting together material for the Dayton concert last year, I put links to your YouTube-available material all over Facebook and the like. At least one person wound up going because they heard something they liked in a link.

I would have said Five years, but that one is already there.

Operation: Desert Storm and Superman Sex Life Boogie come to mind as having really intriguing titles and universal appeal.

It'll be nice to see an official version of this one; I think I've seen videos of this one done, unofficially of course.

Do you have any concert footage? That would be easy as a first post on your own channel. I believe there is a way to link to a page to buy music from your website. I've not played with developing anything like that, but I've seen it on some youtube channels. If you've got a recently released CD (like in the past couple of months) then I'd say post that first or second. Then start adding your "old favorites" That'd be enough to keep you busy for quite a while.

Word. People click on channels to see other stuff by you.
Also, I don't see Pandora Radio up there, which we use all the time. I don't know if you can submit your stuff directly to them, or if they're driven by recording companies choosing what goes on there.

He may want to consider Magnatune.com I'm not sure how he would sign up with them. My understanding is that the artists get a much bigger percentage of profits than if he were selling music through Itunes. I don't know if that is what Tom wants to do, but there are a few other vendors that pay artists more as well.

Pandora is on the big-picture graphic. Its rectangle is nearly as big as the entire rectangle above... and is dwarfed by YouTube.

Actually, I'm there. I sent them five albums about a year ago, after they deigned to accept submissions from indie musicians. Don't know precisely what they chose, but I am there.

I've got some Dragon*Con footage for sure that I can use. It may take a couple of days, but, yeah.

How about a slide show type visual? Pick a song then ask everybody here to send in pictures they think match the lyrics, then string them together to the song. Quick, easy, fun.

Last.fm and Soundcloud are the only ones I've heard of. And the only reason I know about soundcloud is because of Classitronics.net (which seems to be in the doldrums - one update over a year).
