I'm looking for fonts this morning. 1001 Free Fonts, fontex, and fontso. Also Font Squirrel and S. John Ross's Cumberland Fontworks. Lotsa good stuff.

And then I found it. The best font site name EVAR.

I Shot the Serif.

What's your favorite strangely named yet useful site?

Sticking with fonts, I'm partial to Blambot (http://www.blambot.com/), myself. Digitalstrip and Mouthbreather factor into my work frequently.

Oh that is an excellent site name!

Not sure how useful this one is, except for making me laugh, and it does create many puns. http://translationparty.com/
Here is what it did with your name and title: http://translationparty.com/#2542548

Not so sure it's useful but my favorite is the Invisible Library.
If you are as addicted to books as I am it's great.

I am sorry for using your LJ as a device to commit torture.
I am sorry that I keep around friends who are deserving of torture.

Strangely *useful*? Gotta be FreshMeat (www.freshmeat.net). It tracks software releases. You wanna find something that does X, and you don't care how it does it, just that it does, go there.

Gee, thanks, Tom. I *really* needed to spend the last hour gathering cool fonts onto my computer. You should know that I am not personally responsible for managing my own time wisely, and...

Right, anyway - thanks. And yes, that's a dreadful pun, which is what made me stop and look at both that and the other links.

I just told my husband about your post, Tom. He looked at me like I'd grown an evil little head, and then sang deadpan, "But I did not shoot the ITC.."

Thank you for the terrific font links! I need to look for some sort of fizzy bubbly font (should such an animal exist) for a t-shirt extolling the joys of seltzer. :-)

As a fan of your music, a fan of Gawd-awful puns and a graphic designer trained with typographic emphasis, I thank you most profusely for posting this. As for favorite weirdly-named sites, I have to go back over my insanely huge bookmark list and get back to you.

Staying under the font umbrella, I'll go with:

www.whatthefont.com

It lets you upload a .JPG of some font you don't know the name of, and frequently guides you to the correct font... if they sell it.

And although the name's not as cute, I've also gotten a lot of mileage out of http://www.identifont.com/

...which will ask you a series of questions describing your mystery font's characters, then suggest a few possibilities.

At the risk of breaking the unwritten rule of staying within the font topic, my favorite strangely named yet useful site would have to be http://del.icio.us/ (I refuse to call it delicious.com, even if they have changed it). Quite the bizarre name for a social bookmarking site.
