I'd have to add: Make businesses pay their share?! But then they won't invest in communities. Oh, wait...they don't do that if they can help it anyway.

Jack Lessenberry had a great essay on Michigan Radio about this yesterday, in case you missed it: http://jackshow.blogs.com/jack/2011/02/essay-the-budget-21711.html

Here's how to fix the budget and stimulate the economy.

Every business currently in the US gets its taxbase cut by 25%. Off the top. Boom. This becomes your new Base tax rate.

Now. A count of every person who works for that company, either directly or as a subsidiary, is taken. And the number 125 is multiplied by the ratio of out of country employees to total employees. That number then is the percentage that is added to the new base tax rate.

If all your employees are in the US, then your tax rate drops 25%. If all your employees are out of the country, then your tax rate goes up 100%.

If you don't want to pay taxes, then quit sending the jobs overseas and making taxpayers have to support the people you fired.

What, you mean cutting taxes to the rich and oversized corporations hasn't helped? They haven't voluntarily given to the community? But that was totally going to work!

If we didn't pay high taxes to the state and Federal government, we'd have the money on the local level to do all of those things and more.

And, personally, I figure we'd be better off if we closed the schools and laid off the police force.

Not a nightmare, more like a pleasant summer dream.

There is a simple solution: remove churches from tax-free status and make them make their fair share of the wealth they are hording!! They value wealth over charity, time for them to be held accountable!!
