You may recall that one of DC's best animated movies so far was Green Lantern: First Flight.

You also may recall that one of the best fan trailers out there is the one starring Nathan Fillion as GL.

On June 7, the twain meet.

I suspect it's going to be an adaptation of the mini-series of the same name. My only hope is that it either works in continuity with First Flight or specifically says it doesn't so that we aren't left guessing.

Along the way of tracking down info on this, I found out that -- joy of joys! -- they're working on an animated adaptation of Batman: Year One, which is one of the best retellings of any origin story ever -- Frank Miller and David Mazzucchelli at their best.

Thoughts?

Great trailer! I'm glad they're holding off on making you-know-who a villain. Best to save that for later so it has a greater effect.

I'm not a GL fan, but I've got to say that if Fillion was put in that role I would be in line in a hot minute!

That does look much better than the live action version (which admittedly could not possibly live up to the fan trailer).

I am amused that both films have cast British actors best known for playing OTT evil villains as Sinestro.

Emerald Knights is one of my favorites as well and I'm interested in how they're going to handle it.

If i remember right, it's not actually one long film, but a bunch of different stories about different Lanterns.

I've always been a big fan of GL (especially the GL Corps), and Nathan Fillion seems like a great choice for the voice of Hal Jordan / GL.

Green Lantern Emerald Knights is going to be more like Tales of the Green Lantern Corps. (or more precisely will be like the Batman Gotham Knights DVD)
While waiting for a huge battle the GLs are one by one charging on the central power battery. The newest recruit Arisia is nervous and as she waits Hal Jordan (and possibly others) tell her stories of the GLC.
One of those stories is going to be Mogo Doesn't Socialize!!
They had a nice little preview on the All Star Superman Blu Ray.

In the words of Grant Morrison; "Frank Miller is a hack!"

At this point in his career, yes, Miller is without doubt a hack. A goddamn hack, even. However, much of his earlier work was innovative and exceptional -- The Dark Knight Returns, Ronin, Batman: Year One, his first run on Daredevil, Electra: Assassin, the "Born Again" sequence in Daredevil. Not to mention all those gorgeous covers on the First Comics edition of Lone Wolf and Cub.

Miller changed a hell of a lot in the industry, and I think it's fair to say that we wouldn't have the current version of the Batman if not for him. Whether that's a good thing at this point, I'll leave to better minds than mine.

Is it sad that this looks way better than the upcoming live action movie with goofy comic boy as GL?

Found this sad bit while following some of the links here:
https://secure.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/wiki/DC_Universe_Animated_Original_Movies#Cancelled_projects
"With the lesser success of the Wonder Woman film, plans for a sequel were shelved, as well as a planned animated film based on the 2003 mini-series Batgirl: Year One."

No love for the ladies :-(

I saw the trailer and a short feature about Emerald Nights at the Green Lantern party room at MarsCon this weekend. It looks fantastic. Don't know how well it will fit in with First Flight, although Hal Jordan is narrarator and the story is actually multiple stories that tie together into a larger story. I am looking forwards to it!
