Sadness. Actor Michael Gough, best known for portraying the Celestial Toymaker in the William Hartnell era of Doctor Who and Alfred Pennyworth, the butler of Batman in the Keaton/Kilmer/Clooney films, has passed away at the age of 94.

A great actor with a resume that cannot be topped, who got to work with some of the other greats (like Guinness in The Man in the White Coat).

But to me he is Alfred. Not to slight the awesome Michael Caine, or Alan Napier's better-than-it-needed-to-be performance, or even the voice of Efrem Zimbalast. But Gough embodied the character, his humanity and his sly wit and his patience, better than anyone else.

Let's not forget that he built a REALLY nifty escape tunnel in Top Secret! RIP Mr. Gough.
