Pimp Your Stuff Thursday
Mar. 17th, 2011 06:06 pmLotsa stuff this week:
- Once again, I extend my deepest thanks and a bunch of virtual hugs to all of you who helped me out last week. I'm going to keep the download folder open until Monday night, methinks. I've got a couple of new things in there now, including a recording obtained by
hms42 specifically as a thank-you for everybody: the first time I did "307 Ale", at OVFF back in 1989. Lyrics and melody have evolved over the years, but the most fun is hearing an audience that didn't know the joke was coming. - This weekend is MillenniCon in the north part of Cincinnati, OH. I didn't go last year because of another commitment, but this is in a lot of ways my home con. Wonderful, small, relaxing, fun. And, hey! Robert J. Sawyer is the Author GOH. I will be recording my concerts (three total -- one for the ConText room party on Friday ay 10:00 p.m., the main one at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, and halftime at the Masquerade), and putting them up in the donations folder on Sunday night. So, if you've still got the URL, it ain't over yet.
- Saturday, May 7, is Free Comic Book Day. I'll be spending it at Comic City on Ford Road in Canton, MI, along with Odd from Mad World Radio. Here's a flyer and more info.
- My dear friend
markbernstein is performing this weekend and next in Neil Simon's "Laughter On The 23rd Floor". Click here for ticket info. - Maureen O'Danu, a friend of this site, has a couple of nifty blogs, Walking Upstream and Am I The Only One Dancing?
- For computer musicians, the excellent Spicy Guitar VSTi is now freeware.
- In a similar vein, the award-winning Melodyne Editor can now be tried for thirty days with no restrictions.

Date: 2011-03-17 11:20 pm (UTC)And did I mention that I now have a phone number set up on the main page, so that people can call, leave a voice mail, and I can answer their comments or questions on the 'cast? Cause even thought it's Old Tech, I still find it pretty nifty.
Fiance said that while talking on the 13th podcast, I seemed to be coming across like Jack Lucas (Jeff Bridges' character in The Fisher King). I beamed. ;-)
Have Fun At Millenicon!

Date: 2011-03-18 12:23 am (UTC)Back in 1993 when Snoop Doggy Dogg first appeared on the scene with his name-laden-chorus-hook song "Who Am I? What's My Name?", I had the idea of doing a parody of that song about the comic strip "Peanuts", its main character Charlie Brown, and of course his dog Snoopy. I wrote the idea down in my notebook, but never started working on it mainly because I assumed that somebody somewhere was going to do the same idea. I figured everyone else was thinking the exact same thing that I was; that it was very, very silly that a supposedly big-bad, scary, tough gangsta rapper seriously named himself after a world famous cartoon dog.
17 or so years later, I'm going through my old notebooks looking for lost undone song ideas to talk about on my podcast, and I found "Snoopy The Dogg" written on my very first list of song parody ideas, and my mind boggled at the fact that to this day, still, nobody had ever recorded a comedy song tying "Snoop" to "Snoopy". And since Charles Schulz was such a huge inspiration to me both in art and comedy when I was very young, I figured it was time for me to stop being so wishy-washy and make this tribute tune a reality.
Backup vocals by Carrie Dahlby (the little red haired girl), cameo vocals by Chris Mezzolesta (beagle scout leader), Insane Ian (isn't he the cutest thing?), and the Stacey (naturally curly hair). Music by Jared Ringold (sly dog), additional instrumentation and mixdown by Bob Emmett (Daisy Hill Puppy Farmer).

I am also writing a handfasting ceremony, a children's book and editing on my cyberpunk short story that comes out in April.
Oh, and I went to parent teacher conferences. Go mom.

2) An easily transportable, easily assembled, multiple-guitar-stand:

I manned the booth for that thing at a Dallas guitar convention last year, and although it uses no screws or nuts, it's much sturdier than I expected it to be.
As for myself, in about a week I'll have completed the mythical creatures fabric design which currently contains representatives for only half the letters of the alphabet. I'll flog the finished layout here next month :>

Date: 2011-03-18 11:21 am (UTC)This week it made it through Apple's approval process and into the App Store as "Timely" (http://itunes.apple.com/ca/app/timely/id424255387?mt=8). The neatest feature -- if I do say so myself :) -- is the ability to auto-scroll songs based on an entered duration rather than paging with touches or add-on controllers. ( More technical details at: http://timely.philmills.ca/ )
Now all I need is time to convert my own collection of weighty paper into the appropriate bits.
