Geraldine Ferraro, the first female Vice Presidential candidate on a major party ticket (and even that is a bit of a hoop-jump) has passed away at the age of 76.

As the kids would say...

Apparently it's a bad day for women who are 76 - first Diana Wynn Jones and now Geraldine. Two women who helped shape the world in their own way.

The more I learned about Sarah Palin in 2008, the more I thought, "Democrats had a woman VP candidate 24 years ago, and SHE was awesome. This - this - is a Republican idea of a woman candidate?"

She was a lawyer who helped other women. She was smart, skilled, and compassionate. (Unfortunately she turned her anger at the misogyny leveled at Hillary Clinton's campaign into a racist rant against Obama's - please, let that not be her only legacy.)
