I am continuing my tradition of not participating. (Except that one time. But that was... you know.) However, there are already a few good ones out there, such as the one at Steve Jackson Games.

How are you celebrating the day? I'm working, and then cleaning, and then making tacos.

ETA: Okay, I've got the winning April Fool's Day joke right here -- Woot is selling their Bag O' Crap... but only if you beat a video game.

Probably 15 years ago, one of the SF Bay Area stations (nominally an alt-rock station) did a 4/1 format change to K-GAY - showtunes, dance music, queer musicians, etc. It wound up being so phenomenally popular that they've done a K-GAY weekend for the Pride Parade ever since.

Today, I - Little Miss Google-worshiper - signed up for iTunes...

No, really. I did: I bought Spice's album, and I'm finally redeeming all those Starbux "free song" cards I've accumulated. (Both of them. ;-) )

Honestly, I'm not exactly a big "fan" of this particular date either, as it's been a historically bad one for me. So, I'm hoping to remember the date all day long to remind myself that I should be be extra skeptical of things, before taking them too seriously and panicking due to a poorly-thought-out "funny" prank.

I've kind of lost the taste for April Fool's Day. Mainly because half the jokes are too obvious and the others are too good. Every year, Superman Homepage runs at least one joke news story about a comic or TV show that I wish was real, and I am then really bummed when I remember the date. That just isn't cool.

Then again, maybe I am just a big grump sometimes.

I'm taking 3 days vacation and doing a five day "retreat" to finish the first major section of my thesis so I can GRADUATE soon. I'm trying to bribe myself: if I get it done by Monday night I get to take a drive out to the coast on Tuesday and look at the ocean and blooming things. We'll see if I make it.

I think the fact that there is a National Intellectual Property Rights Coordination Center, and that their motto is 'Protection is our Trademark', is scarier than the idea that GPF might have been taken down.

I look forward to Google's joke every year. They did not disappoint. :)

I always intend to come up with a great joke, but have not come up with anything to beat the time Jason and I convinced a bunch of people that we were moving to Germany. It pissed a few people off too :( but most had good humor about it.

Jason always manages to fool me about something, though every year I tell myself that this year, I'll be ready for it. :P

The best prank I've seen was in a college dorm. The blew up balloons in the hallway and soaked them in liquid nitrogen (in a styrofoam cooler). The balloons shrank and then the people shoved them under the RA's door with a stick, where they warmed up and expanded again. 500 balloons.

So the RA went to sleep behind locked doors, and woke up with balloons filling his entire room.

At least one of Google's pranks has been mentioned. They've got two I know of, the GMail Motion and searching for Helvetica.

There are at least three Internet RFCs — 5984, 6214, and 6217 — that came out today.

A friend's junior sysadmin pranked their mutual coworker by replacing his desktop computer.

Nothing amazing so far, with the possible exception of what Mother Nature is doing to the northeast.

Your call. But I've never had a lick of trouble with iTunes on my windows boxes. Windows Media Player, on the other hand, has been the crashiest nastiest thing I've ever run. Only the latest version that comes with Win7Pro64 works at all.

Funny, I never had any problems with WMP. iTunes, on the other hand, wants you to use it for everything and even if you say "no" it still tries to worm its way into your start menu and media library. Worse there's NO way to get rid of it. No matter what you do, there's still a little piece somewhere trying to get you to reinstall it like the T-1000. When it was on my last computer, it acted less like a program and more like a virus.

I don't want apple monitoring what I listen to and trying to make decisions for me.

ThinkGeek's got their usual "New Products" listing, including Star Wars Light Saber Popsicles (with working LED). One of last year's prank listings, the Tauntaun Sleeping Bag, proved so popular with their customers that they got a license from LucasFilms and started producing them.

Meanwhile, I've got a 10 year old in the house who started the day with "Grandmom, school is closed today." Then hit me with April Fool after I'd gone to look up the school calendar.
