I know Marty's been sick a long time. Still, this is hard news.

I have some recordings of Marty, and it's my St. Patrick's Day tradition to listen to him singing Irish songs (and remember he once said his motto was, "If Bing Crosby sang it, I don't."). I miss the time when he was at Chaim Sweeney's every Sunday and the audience was full of SF fans.

I, too, remember the "After the con" sessions at Chiam Sweeney's. We were not the usual crowd at a pub (where the singer is often just background music). We paid attention, we sang along, we exchanged banter with him, we even pulled surprised on him (recalling a bag full of kazoos being passed around to surprise him on one of the songs he did). Those were good times, and he was good people.

The kazoos! I remember that night vividly. Marty regularly sang a song in which he played a kazoo for the chorus (I think it was "My Eggs Don't Taste the Same"). One night Bill and Linda -- who weren't SF fans, but fans of Marty and regulars at the Sunday nights -- waited until Marty took a break and went to the back of the pub, and passed the kazoos around. Then someone requested the song. Marty didn't crack up until he'd finished the song, and then he nearly fell off his chair.

I'd forgotten that, thank you! lol! I was remembering various Sunday nights, and some Dead Dogs at Chiam Sweeney's with a friend tonight. I don't know if she were there for that one, I'll have to ask.

He will be missed.

Chaim Sweeney's was in Dearborn, near Southfield and Outer Drive. It closed some years ago.

Rest in peace Marty. May you now be able to sing again.
