Holy crap, this actually does look like scary fun. Gonna be tough, though -- the original is a classic, one of the best combining humor and horror. Can Colin Ferrell out-Sarandon Chris Sarandon? Can David Tennant, wonder though he is, possibly live up to the reputation of Roddy McDowall's Peter Vincent? Can those two ladies -- the girlfriend and the mom -- be any sexier? Nah, I didn't think so either. And what of Evil Ed?

Thoughts?

Fright Night Redux

A remake of Fright Night? I am torn. I continue to call Fright Night the best vampire movie ever made, and that is a scary high bar to reach. On the other hand, I have generally liked the remakes that have increasingly dominated the movies for the past few decades, and the trailer looked good. If this was a remake of a lame original, it would be so much easier to be enthusiastic about it!

  • Evil Ed looks to be the one who figures out Jerry is the vampire, and I think they are going with him being the type that neighbors will one day say "He was a quiet man, kept to himself mostly" about. Which is another "cool idea, but the original was so good!" conflict in and of itself...

Was there any Tennant in the trailer? If so, I missed him. But your thoughts are mine, especially regarding Roddy McDowell, a wonderful actor who I think was always just a little underappreciated.

You can see him at 2:10.....his face is covered in dirt, but it's definitely him.

Actually, I take that back....it was 2:10 the first time I saw it at Comingsoon. He's at 2:05 this time.

I'm sick and fucking tired of them remaking movies, making shitty movies based on books, and making movies based on old sitcoms. I want something new, fresh, and original.

David Tennant as Peter Vincent? I'll be in my bunk.

Um, looks excellent, but nothing like the original. Maybe just capitalizing on the name, no actual remake?

Hmmm... I'm not getting a lot of "funny" from this. But as long as it's got more shadows and creepiness than screams and shock, I'll probably be happy. It certainly doesn't looks like it'll ruin the original.

    Ed's perfectly cast, anyway.

I might try this out. I do like the original movies. Has it really been that long since they came out?
