Judgment Day's A-Comin'
May. 18th, 2011 07:15 pmSupposedly, this Saturday is the Rapture.
The Righteous -- approximately 3% of the world's population -- will be swept up into Heaven. The rest of humanity will suffer through five months of really severe weather before God destroys the universe on October 21.
The first question, of course, is are you ready?
Rapture fans, Are You RRRRRRRRRRRRReady???
The second question is troubling to agnostics and atheists such as myself. What if it actually happens?
What if Harold Camping got the date right, but the faith wrong? What if the Muslims are taken to Heaven, or the Buddhists, or Hamas, or whatever's left of the Manson Family, or Al-Qaida, or the Southern Baptists, or the Pagani, or the atheists!?!?!? (That last one presumes that life is a test of reasoning through evidence.)
Most important of all: What are your plans for Sunday?

Date: 2011-05-19 02:55 am (UTC)Ooh! Can we get a pagan rapture, instead?
*All* the hateful, bigoted assholes in the world drug off to somewhere else by their god/dess, leaving the planet to the people who still care about it and those who live on it?
Well...

Date: 2011-05-18 11:59 pm (UTC)My parents are visiting relatives this weekend so they'll get hit an hour before I do if it happens. The Dupage SF party is on Saturday. Circumstances prevented me from going these past 2 months so I do plan to go this time. I think there is something Sunday, but I forget.
Bad news is that it's likely my contract job will be up on next Friday. Everyone says I did a great job and I should be proud of it. Which I am, but I didn't think I'd like working there so much. This was one of those jobs that I could see myself staying for a while. Well until we ran out of projects for me to do. And at the rate I was doing them, it would have happened soon anyway. :)
So now I get to look forward to the job hunt grind a few weeks before DucKon. First order of business, take a vacation. When you don't have PTO, you can't take a day off (well you can, but it costs ya). Give myself a break before getting back into the swing of things. Then try to find a job that's an easy drive away.

Date: 2011-05-19 12:31 am (UTC)Laundry. Grocery shopping. Making love to my husband. Writing.
Jesus and I broke up a long time ago and started seeing other people. (Seems Hermes has a crush on me right now) I doubt he'll be taking me home to Daddy at this late date.

Date: 2011-05-19 12:40 am (UTC)...ironically, I stopped being friends with the Born-Again Christians becuase they accused me of "Satan Worship" for LARPing and reading Fantasy.

Date: 2011-05-19 12:42 am (UTC)Thor and I have a much better relationship.
...though I admit after seeing the movie adaptation of Thor, if I saw Movie-Thor and Movie-Loki in a bar, I'd decide Thor was out of my league in a second and spend the evening chatting with Loki.

Date: 2011-05-19 12:42 am (UTC)1) All the religious nuts ascend to their vaguely-defined and not at all thought out heavens, leaving the rest of us here to inherit the earth and progress without any of their inanities interfering. Just think, we could teach biology in schools without fear of creationists attacking science.
2) All the atheists, agnostics and tolerant religious types ascend to a big spiritual MMO in the sky while those of arrogant faith remain here for the end times.
Also, gotta tell you this. Been reading Doonesbury? That really happened! Long story, but the short version is an undercover lesbian stumbled upon a "True Believer®" as he fretted over how his material goods might impede his ascension to the Feast of Jesus. With just a few suggestions she walked away with two cars, a mobile home, a boat, five expensive TVs, and numerous other things. The rapture didn't happen so she sold everything to finance law college where she graduated then moved back to the midwest to start her civil rights practice.
Miracles _do_ happen! Hallelujah!
