More terrible weather in Oklahoma, Missouri, and points east. Be careful, be safe, let us know you're all right.

This is definitely getting old. Who do you think has the weather-controlling superweapon, and what do you suppose they'll ask for as ransom?

We're getting conflicting reports of upcoming nastiness in my area (5mi north of Louisville); everything from massive storms hitting around 4pm to simple thundershowers around 10pm, depending on what station you're looking at. I'm not quite sure what's going to happen...I'm hoping for the latter and sticking to NOAA's somewhat calmer best-case scenario for here.

I'm personally of the opinion that Mother Nature has had it with being abused and is showing us who's boss...just wish the bitchslap wasn't so deadly.

Everyone, stay safe out there!

The main center of the low pressure zone seems to be currently over Kansas City, Mo.

See: http://radar.weather.gov/Conus/full_loop.php for an animated map.

Me! I demand 1000 new wind farms and a sensible carbon trading system. And all the rubies from the UN crown jewels! Do all these things and I promise the weather will (eventually) return to normal.

Well last night we had a storm blow through here, no problems. This morning we had another thunderstorm. Now there's a third one two states away and I can't tell if it will hit or not.

My theory is that someone was trying to build a weather-controlling super-weapon [probably in time for Makerfare], and screwed it up...

What we're seeing now is some garage based guy's desperate and ineffectual attempts to get it back under control while it runs amok, building towards an apocalyptic storm system of biblically epic proportions.. or a blown power-company fuse and a helluva nagging from his wife.

What, hasn't everyone had a project that went like that?

Nah, we just need to pull the wonderfulanium core...

of course, slight problem with it fatally irradiating whomever does that.. but that sounds like the perfect job for Cpt "Unsubtle metaphor for his penis", don't you think?!

Still too far west (and north) to be any threat to DC. But the worst of it seems to be hitting Detroit and the suburbs right now...

Freaking HUGE storm system. I hope nobody else gets hurt. Scary stuff.

Yeah, it's been raining like crazy all afternoon. Lotta wet, lotta wind, lotta noise, flood warnings up all over the place. (For those of you familiar with the Southeastern Michigan area, of course Hines Drive is closed. They close that street if someone unloads a water balloon or two kids spill their drinks at the same McDonald's.)

According to the maps at http://www.spc.noaa.gov/ and http://www.spc.noaa.gov/products/outlook/day1otlk.html , Louisville is on the outer edges of the high-risk area.

If I had just had a bottle of shampoo with me when I walked the dog this morning I could have put it to good use--rainwater is supposed to be good for that.

I'm not even joking, but my neighbor was ranting and raving the other day about how terrorists must have a weather controlling device and are using it to destroy America.

While I was at work lightning struck near enough to scramble the settings in my Vonage router, cutting off phones and internet until I figures out how to reset them. But that was the worst of it here. Naturally work never lost power...

Bizarrely my friends and I are going camping this weekend to the west of where we live. Specifically a campground in Lena, IL which is a bit north of Freeport. Hopefully any nastiness will miss us.

It's certainly going to be an interesting weekend...

Spent part of last night down in the basement after the sirens went off. We had all the (adult) kids and grandkids over, and they didn't bat an eye. Everyone grabbed their plates, someone grabbed the dessert, and we finished dinner downstairs. Two twisters spotted, one went north of the city, one south. Local news does not report any damage or injuries, maybe they didn't touch down.

For Nimitzbrood - Forecast shows chance of storms decreasing Sat, with halfway decent weather Sun and Mon. But bring a camp stove -- any deadfall wood will be to soggy to burn.

The political cynic in me notes that the tornadoes have not hit any reliably blue states. Either there's a clueless Democrat at the helm or it's God's way of talking politics. Or perhaps a brilliant combination of both :P

My uncynical side hopes that loss of life, health and property is kept to a minimum.
