Oh. My. Gods.

I ended up memorizing all of Wadworth's damned inaccurate poem for English class. And my grandparents lived in Concord, so I used to ride my bike past the place where Revere was captured, and Samuel Prescott finished the Ride.

I don't expect non-New Englanders to be familiar with the historical inaccuracies of the poem, but every American should know "One if by Land, two if by sea...."

And she's still on Faux Noise's payroll. Shows the quality of their staff, for sure.

Eric said it best: she andMichelle Bachman live in an alternative history novel that they make up as they go. Out warning the British. Because the shot heard round the world happened in New Hampshire. It's the only thing that possibly makes sense.

That point, specifically, is why Lawrence O'Donnell thinks (http://www.washingtonmonthly.com/ten-miles-square/2011/06/sarah_palin_is_not_going_to_ru029952.php) she's not actually running for president. I agree with him.

Dear heaven, it's not part of my history and I know the "one if by land, two if by sea" _lantern_ signal.

I take it that Caribou Barbie failed American history?

I'm not convinced. I think she either hasn't made up her mind, or is just as happy being a noncandidate until the last possible second, especially if she's going to have to run on the Tea Party line, and not the Republican one. Personally, I hope she jumps into the pool; her time is past, and most of the country laughs at her now, and not with her.

Oh, I damn sure hope she jumps in. She's hopeless, hapless, and helpless, and she'll continue the recent parade of Republican leaders making themselves look like out-of-touch morons, jes' by actin' natural-like.

M'friend, I've mentioned that I wouldn't trust her competence as a diner waitress. Palin practically defines "failing upward".

And she has a HUGE strike against her even for folks who might consider voting that way: the nickname I recommend always using; The Quittah From Wasilla. I don't know if she can get past that, even (maybe especially) for the sort of person who would actually vote for her, otherwise.

"Failed" is for students who live in the same world as the subject they're studying. How can you fail your own fantasy?

If anyone can, it's her. I think she'll see it as a challenge on a sub-conscious level.

Same with Adam Helmer. Unlike Revere, Dawes, Israel, Prescott, etc, he didn't HAVE a horse! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adam_Helmer

I'm British by birth and Canadian by choice. One if by land two if by sea. Right? In 1775 you didn't even HAVE a constitution yet. So the whole bearing arms thing doesn't yet apply. I wonder what she'd say if you asked her about the causes of the Revolution.

It's a sad state of affairs when a british canadian knows the "story" better than a former Governor. She really is pathetic.

The only bright side to this is that it all makes her very easy to beat in an election.

But ya know, who needs brains if you have beauty? *eyeroll*

If you asked her about the causes of the Revolution, I suspect she'd say some vague stuff about how we "wanted to be free." I don't know if she'd be savvy enough to trot out "no taxation without representation," which is not a totally accurate summary either, but does at least touch on one of the Colonists' reasons for rebellion.

My personal (and admittedly very catty) suspicion is that Palin's trying to get what she can while she still has her beauty capital.

Too bad being an embarrassment to one's self is not a crime; if it were, Sarah Palin would be a woman of many convictions. Like many Democrats, I hope she gets the Presidential nomination, and manages to decimate the minimal thread of credibility the Republicans are using to hang themselves.
