Take a look at this. Take a good, long, steamy gawk.

Ah, our elevated discourse. I did notice that the article touches on the sexist aspects, but sorta glosses over the racist aspects. Not to mention the amateur-night "production values".

I seem to remember at some point in the 70s and 80s, and even into the 90s, that this country wasn't overwhelmed with racism, stupidity, and utter bullshit, at least not on an hourly basis. Obviously, my memory is wrong.

Why is the country going backwards?

GOP attack ad check list;
crappy - check
sexist - check
racist - check
stupid - check
lies - check
bull*hit - check
officially disowned by GOP candidate - Check and checkmate!

Yeah, pretty much business as usual with them.
It doesn't matter if the majority think it's bull... just as long as enough people buy into it and are enraged enough to vote for them.

But don't you DARE call them "racist" or they'll accuse you of being "politically correct", which is a code word made up by the right in the 90s so they can feel GOOD about being sociopathic.

Oh, and according to the right, THIS ad is fine, but THIS ad...

THIS ad is "mean" and "offensive".

What... A bunch... Of fucking... Pussies!

I've been trying to stay out of political debate in here lately and concentrating on the positive. With the economic and political stuff coming down the track like a runaway train, the only way for me to stay sane is to be as quiet as possible and just let it happen until people realize I've been right all along.

That being said, I really have to comment on the term, "Politically Correct":

You see, I am the co-inventor of the term. Back in 1970 at a conference of Underground Newspaper reporters and editors, a bunch of us (including myself and a guy who's now known as the essayist who was the Rolling Stone imbedded reporter during the First Gulf War) did a series of skits on what America was going to be like "after the Revolution."

The two of us looked at the situation in Stalinist Russia and put on a satire for the conference on how the New Left was going to set up re-education camps for Nixon and the rest of the GOP and not let them go until they were all "Politically Correct", which was a term that had been translated directly from the Russian.

In other words, the whole concept was meant to be a joke on the radicals around us, (which included Panthers, SDS, and assorted other crazies) poking fun at the fact that they were just as intolerant as the folks they were trying to replace. Not too far-fetched an idea, since the first thing revolutionaries normally do when they gain power is shoot all of their allies.

Anyway, that's where the term comes from and what we meant it to mean. What's been done since to it horrifies me, especially since some Leftists in the 80s co-opted it to mean "The Way Things Ought To Be." I am just as horrified by modern conservatives using the term as an excuse to be rude, even if I do agree with them that religious folks, white folks, and male folks are currently getting the short end of the stick.

Best always,

Tom Trumpinski

A) "Politically Correct" was a term coined by lesbians, to poke fun at their own hyper-marginalized fringe elements, well in use during the late 70s and early 80s. ("She was all 'Well, I can't eat rice, it's harvested by oppressed migrant workers. No meat, of course. Fruit? What are we boycotting this week?' Poor thing starved to death.") The right got hold of the term in the early 90s and now it means "anything that doesn't put straight white Christian males first."

B) ..."Pussies." Oh, right. Because we mustn't ever forget for a minute that the worst thing in the world, ever, is to be a woman.

With all due respect to gardnerhill above, Toni Bambera, the lesbian that first used the term in her paper later, was at the conference. She got it from us.

English being what it was, I am sure that there were others that put the two words together before 1970. The present satirical derivation (from Russian) can be traced to those of us at the meeting.

Chris Hayes, subbing for Lawrence O'Donnel covered this ad on The Last Word tonight. Apparently the jerk behind this atrocity has responded to his critics by telling them to, and I quote, "suck it'"
