Programming track is online. There's a pun panel on Friday at 3:00 p.m. I might have to worm my way into. I've got a set Friday at 9:00 p.m. (just after Carla Ulbrich [[profile] singingpatient] and just before The Great Luke Ski [[profile] lukeski] [I love that he's listed in the program as "L. Ski"]), and another Saturday at 1:00 p.m. (with the ultimate lead-in, the amazing Joe Giacoio). Lots of other concerts, including the GOH concert by Carla at 5:00 p.m. Saturday, another by Luke, Bill Roper [[personal profile] billroper], Bill [[personal profile] bedlamhouse] & Brenda [[profile] ladyat] Sutton, Margaret Middleton [[profile] msminlr], and more. FenCon was superb when I was GOH a couple of years back, and the Ropers and Suttons keep schlepping down there from Indy and Chicagoland, and if you're gonna be in Dallas-Fort Worth this weekend you could do a heck of a lot worse.

So. This time, no kiddin' around. Where in D-FW can I get some good, Texas-style barbecue? Ribs, brisket, pulled whatever.

I had Sunny Bryan's Smokehouse back in November 2007 when I was in Dallas, and my notes say "I had a three-meat combo of beef brisket, sausage, and pork ribs with fries and mac-and-cheese as my sides," and I enjoyed it.

I like Spring Creek, which is a local bunch of restaurants though the one I know about is closer to Plano. I also am fine with Dickey's.

Then there is Bone Daddys. Oooooooh.... and they have food, too...

You misspelled Margaret's LJ name: [livejournal.com profile] msminlr.

And - YAY - I'll be glad to see you at FenCon again.

BBQ

Dickey's is good - they are located north of Beltline Road off of Marsh, which is one major intersection west of Midway, where the FenCon hotel is located - 3711 Beltline Road.

There's also Spring Creek BBQ,located on Midway north of the hotel right at Beltline. Spring Creek BBQ is practically walking distance away.

I've had both and I'm kind of partial to Dickey's because of memories there, but Spring Creek actually has better BBQ.

If you happen through the Jonesboro, AR area, there's The Whole Hog Café and Lewis' Barbecue that I recommend.

Sorry for this OT, but filker Leslie Fish will trade $400 plus housekeeping nannie service for 2 months. She has to move, because her landlord's kid is killing her cats. She has another house lined up two months from now. In the Phoenix area.

Call Leslie, 623-247-7809

(*I was on the phone with her, she asked for her phone number to be put up.)

My favorite is Sonny Bryan's. Dickey's is also awesome, though while the meats are consistent, the side dishes tend to vary from location to location. I've been a couple of other places, but those are the ones to which we keep going back. Are you planning to leave the event for dinner, or would you need to sweetly ask someone to bring you a plate? (Don't ask me unless you're someplace I don't need a badge to get into. ;)

I also have to put in a plug for a favorite steakhouse - Texas Land & Cattle. The smoked sirloin is phenomenal.

Tom, I got a question with regards to your knowledge and history of con attendance. I just moved to Buffalo, NY a few days ago, and I'm already starting to wonder what cons take place in the region of Western and Central NY? I've tried researching this on Google and Wikipedia, but there doesn't seem to be a comprehensive list out there - I keep finding cons that aren't on anyone's lists, and finding cons that are on the lists that are defunct. Can you give me any suggestions?

Expatriated Buffalonian here. To the best of my knowledge.....Contradiction is defunct, Eeriecon is still going on, and Astronomicon (Rochester) is status unknown.

Tom, me darlin', this is Sivi, former Consweetie of FenCon (taking a year off on account I gots me a newborn bebby boy), and I'll take you out for BBQ if you like. Spring Creek Barbecue is just down the road, or if you've been there, I'll look further afield. I'll be at the con with my boys on Friday, and on my onsies on Saturday, but you can usually find me via Merideth at registration or via my Hubby, Alan, who is running the video room.

If you don't have time to go out, I'd be honored to bring you something good.

Sivi, taunter of Fenton, Consweetie, and lover of good filk.

Tom, since I presume you will want to eat more than once while at FenCon, have someone take you to Babe's Chicken Dinner House. They do family-style chicken fried steak and fried chicken... and that's it. Their gravy is its own food group. The waitresses occasionally dance the Hokey Pokey.

There is one just a few miles from the hotel.

Oh, and I highly recommend taking Sivi up on her offer. She's a gem. An hour with her is great fun.

I talked to Tim Miller, who has suggested Sonny Bryants and we are looking to arrange something for you, depending on your schedule and time. Or there's a Dickeys just down the road. We're all looking forward to seeing you this weekend!
