Okay, everything looked fine except for the green Martian at 1:09... those are not tusks.

(I hate not being able to edit my comments...)

It's a shame that Bob Clampett's (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1H2ZdSbyHhQ) version never got made.

You're right: they're not.

And where's his two other arms?

He also looked remarkably small.

Granted, it's been... okay, a lot longer than I care to think since I've read the books, but as I recall, the green Martians were all huge. Like 7'+, with 8' tall not being that unusual.

Wasn't one of John Carter's friends really short for a green Martian? Like 'only' 6'6"?

Yeah; I've always seen Tars Tarkas as muscled like a heavyweight boxer.

Oooh, such potential. Just to be ruined by Disney "oatmeal movie" Studios.

I tried watching a low budget thing from a few years ago on Netflix not too long ago, it was horrific. I will take a look at this when I get home tonight.

Now if they will just make a Carson Of Venus series, I'll be a happy man!

I haven't read much of the original Burroughs Mars books...

... but even so, won't Disney have to Bowlderize the hell out of it to make their movie?

Not really. The books are quite clean, aside from the folks wearing very little. They are Edwardian lit, after all. The chapter "Lovemaking on Mars" gets as far as hand-holding if I remember right.

Too soon to judge. Nearly a year of post processing and rendering to go and they've already said the Tharks are evolving and will be much more "realistic" looking.

OMG OMG OMG
It LOOKS RIGHT!

Or relatively so. The Thark needs his tusks, but otherwise, yes!

If they don't hash up the story too much, it will work. I've been squeeing about this since I looked up Taylor Kitsch and saw the credit.

Pardon me. I've been a fangirl since 1977, when I read the books at Girl Scout Camp.

The teaser trailer looks good; I will be cautiously hopeful that something watchable will come of it.

Still way to early to tell, but I like what I see. I was especially happy to see John Carter's epic leap ability made it in.

Hm. It might be good. I'm scared to get my hopes up. I got my aunt's copies of the books when I was 10, and I got to be such a fanboy that some of my geek friends & I built Barsoomian chess sets & used to play. So I don't want to be let down, but I'll probably give it a chance.
