Hot

Heat is subtler than a storm. A storm blows through, makes its mark, and eventually dissipates. A heat wave... lingers. And slowly, slowly, everything else heats as well.

If you're in the Midwest, please take care this week. We're supposed to be hitting 90+° every day, with "lows" in the upper 60s and 70s. There might be a little rain, but not enough to break the heat. Drink water; use the AC. Be safe.

I have a lot of stuff to do this week, including finishing a project for a friend that's been on the back burner for too long, and (thankfully) making some progress in a few new songs. And cleaning. Oy, this place is a mess. But I shall make it less so. And, if opportunity presents itself, I'll finally go see Green Lantern. I will not be seeing Captain America until next Thursday, so I'll put a spoiler thread up for that.

How's your week looking?

I have three whole days w/ nothing on my calendar except my day job. That's such a novel change from the last few over-scheduled weeks that I'm looking forward to it almost as much as "vacation." Then on Thursday I have a half-day CPR/AED class to get current, and Friday Wild Mercy leaves for Pittsburgh for Confluence! :-) Yay!!

It's my last week of freedom before the new job. This morning I did a practice run to gauge the commute under actual working conditions. It wasn't as bad as I thought and I arrived early. But I don't think I'll push my departure time much since traffic started piling up as I was leaving the office. I also treated myself to breakfast.

This week I will start getting out of bed at 6:30(-ish), make progress on listening to TekDiff (http://www.cayenne.libsyn.com/). All 6+ years of the show are archived I started listening to it from the beginning months ago and I'm approaching July of 2010. If I can catch up to less than a year ago, I'll be happy. I also want to finish watching Danger Mouse, write up some character concepts for a super-teen RPG my friend is starting, clean up a little bit more, volunteer at the food pantry twice, put the filk CDs I got from DucKon on the Filk Wiki (http://filk.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page), and do some other minor tasks while I still have the time.

I'm worried about the heat this week because Delia will be at an outdoor camp all day. I've told her to drink lots of water, and the counselors said they'd be making the kids drink, but.... Kids don't think about that sort of thing. I worry about Scott, too, because the place where he works is always hotter than whatever it is outside by at least ten degrees. At least I know he takes pains to drink plenty of water.

I suppose I shouldn't be surprised by the weather. It's Art Fair this week, isn't it? It's always ghastly hot during Art Fair.

It started to rain in Cleveland a few minutes ago; about six drops hit the ground. The ground hissed up some dust...and then nothing. =( Still humid as an armpit; it's gunna be a long week.

I am starting my summer vacation tomorrow and heading to Michigan. First stop is the Detroit Metropolitan Airport, where my daughter living in Seattle flies in to join the rest of the family.

Thanks for the weather report. Living near Baltimore, Maryland, I have already become accustomed to those temperatures combined with high humidity.

I'm just south of Baltimore (I mean literally, go south on Ritchie a couple of miles and BAM) and our AC has been broken since the middle of last month. We don't have the $ to fix it outright ourselves & we're in a fight with the owners & warranty people over service.

So we and the animals basically lie around listlessly in front of the fans a lot. They're miserable with their fur, and it's not helping me with recovering from minor surgery. Luckily I grew up in Orlando & didn't get AC there until I was 16 so I'm not unused to this sort of thing, but the only one who's really enjoying it is the ball python.

Not much on the agenda for once. My car needs an oil-change at some point this week, and hopefully the bathtub re-glazing will actually happen on Friday.

Other than that? I don't have any plans except to stay as close to functioning air conditioners as possible until the heatwave breaks.

yeah, heat index hit 100 before 11am, 'low' tonight is slated to be around 78...*shudder*

My week? trolling for work everywhere I can, because I lost the first half of the month to the discworld con (worth it), and need to make rent. :) First up, installing a brace under a desk, and a bunch of filing.

No A/C unfortunately...

Had to do an emergency attic fan hack today and put one of my industrial network rack fans into one of the vents because the main attic fan died.

Also starting my first long term (2 month to indefinite) job today in a local call center not ten minutes from my house. This is going to be interesting.

Meanwhile I've put a big bowl of ice cubes out for the dog until we get home. We shaved him so he should be fine.

90+ ?
Oh, Tom, what I wouldn't GIVE for merely "90+". We're closing in on a record number of 100+ days in my area.
Time to go chug an Absolut Zero, I think.

"...hitting 90+° every day, with 'lows' in the upper 60s and 70s."

Around here (SE Virginia) we call that "July". What're the temps normally like this time of the year out there?

Ohio is 92, with humidity so high that one can not see the skyline of Columbus through the heat haze.

Makes me very grateful for the house AC.

Swam with [livejournal.com profile] pondside today, which is a great way to feel cool all over.

Yeah, but you guys get humidity too.

We don't get the humidity so much here in Tucson. We just get 108, as yesterday (which then racked up humidity because we had a monsoon on the heels of that.)

Just mowed the lawn today and exterminated some weeds with extreme prejudice, so that should be good until the end of the month. Down here in the 'Nati, it's 93 with some humidity, but there was a breeze hither and yonder. Sky's making like there might be a storm later.

My week will consist of Potter movies tonight and then some video gaming after, then work, work, work, goofing off/radio show, work. And I'm plopped in the basement, the coolest room in the house, being quite pleased with the notion of central air.

Just got back from the food pantry. Working there in 90+ heat index wasn't fun, but at least we had a lot of help. Actually I think that worked against me because it freed me up to do more physical labor instead of staying in the same spot putting groceries into carts.

Busy week. Two meetings out of the office (but same Metro station, just need to walk 5 blocks south instead of 4 blocks east). Dinner with friends from CA tomorrow. And something in Western PA that isn't Pennsic... ;-)

Work. Come home & try to hack up the oomph to continue my post-move cleaning/organizing/purging. A wedding shower on Saturday. Try to locate the toile de jouy, thread, drapery lining & possibly make my bedroom curtains.

Oh, yeah, I live the high life.

Bad News: It's sweltering in Chicago.

Good News: I just had installed a new a/c unit in my apartment. Between three a/c units, I've got 23000 BTU's working in my favor.

As for my week, mainly work. Some of it actually pays, too.

Well, our on-again-off-again AC gave up the ghost entirely on Sunday, and is finally being looked at today. I am hoping to have AC again by the time I head home from work - it is looking impossible for it to be fixed before I leave.
