Chatterbox

That was the name of a horrifically bad "comedy" porn movie about a woman whose vagina could talk.

Well, guess what? Now it's a Summer's Eve ad campaign. (Do continue on to the original post at Gawker. There are variations on the ad, and an ad in comments for Lysol-as-douche that will have everybody cringing.)

I am still boggling so hard that I can't even think of a response. Except, the driving need to shove stereotypes and bullshit at people for the sake of marketing truly knows no bounds.

Um......

....right.

Well, that's one ad campaign which will (probably) not make it across the Atlantic.

I join you in your boggle.

I watched more television last weekend than I have in the past year. The quality and repetitiveness of the ad was just appalling. I re-remembered why I don't watch.

I remember bits of that movie as a teenager when we'd try to unscramble porn on TV (pre-internet). That may be OK for a 70s movie, but today that just seems in bad taste.

Calling the people who came up with this misogynist claptrap "dickheads" is an insult to penises everywhere.

I do not know if you got the email or not. But Prodyon, who recently had a sale offering Plugins for Life, is closing down.

Yep. I'm a customer, and I has a sad. Dennis did some good work, and I hope he eventually finds a way to make it with his plug-ins.

If the premise of the ad weren't offensive enough (vulvas smell bad!) the ethnic stereotyping puts it over the top.

This is disgraceful on so many levels.

And after some Google-fu, the name of that movie may have been "Chatterbox".

Ummm... it was. The link at the top went to its IMDB page, but now doesn't. Dunno why.

It still does, but IMDB prevents hotlinking - even to full pages, apparently (I'd only ever seen the behaviour for IMDB images). Goodness only knows why. :/

I saw the Summer's Even thing yesterday & all I could think of was the "South Park" episode where Oprah's vag orders her to kill.

Yes, my mind boggles as well. What douchebags came up with this ad, and what douchebags gave their approval to it?

They were subtly marketing the Lysol as a spermicide there, you know that, right?

The only practical application I can see for the talking V's is maybe a public service ad about STD's. For example: A cute guy winks. Girl blushes. V says, "Uh uh, baby. You know he slept with half the girls in the neighborhood. Including that skank down at the gas station. Don't go puttin' his thing in me. You don't know what he got!"

I saw Chatterbox many years ago. I kind of liked it, because when I saw the video box, I was expecting nothing more than a really cheesy sex comedy. And it lived up to my expectations.

But the Summer's Eve commercial? I think even the people who worked on Chatterbox would have been creeped out by that commercial. I don't know what the ad agency was attempting, but I'm fairly certain that they totally missed their target . . . whatever it was.
