Unfortunately, with most of Washington and the media, and much of the country, mesmerized or deluded into the belief that Hoover was brilliant, this Nouveaux Deal has no chance. Dammit.

And particularly Obama, whose game plan from the word go- "shovel ready projects," refusing direct aid to those losing their homes, tax cuts for the well-off to encourage alternative energy- is pretty much identical with Hoover's relief plans of 1930 and 1931.

Hey, Schakowski is my Representative!

I think the bill is a good one, between direct hiring of people (rather than hoping that someone else will hire) and the phrasing of the tax brackets. It is is easier to justify those tax brackets in terms of millionaires and billionaires, especially when you consider that people in the $250,000 - $1,000,000 bracket are actually small business owners that actually do base their hiring on things like tax breaks.

Let's hope this bill at least gets people's attention...

Apparently you did, and I gave you credit. If you'd prefer, I can take it down and use another...

Oh no no, please feel free to use it. I just haven't seen it in a long while (been avoiding posting in my own LJ for a while now), and was pleasantly surprised to see someone else making it useful :)

I like this whole idea. Why weren't we doing this about a year ago?

Because we have a Republican president.

Oh yeah, right. Sigh. I'd settle for a Goldwater Republican at this point!

Dead on arrival. Even if it passed Congress, Obama would veto it because it ignores the deficit that, above all other considerations, MUST be balanced... and also because it creates "moral hazard" that people might become dependent upon these jobs, and thus on government, rather than jobs created in the private sector.

And, of course, the Republican "Let the Poor Die" Party wouldn't let it pass either house of Congress in the first place, so it's moot.

Yeah, but we can get the Republicans on record as voting directly against creating jobs for thousands of Americans, and that's worth something. They can't even say it was an unfunded mandate.

Sure they can. It wouldn't be true, but that never stopped them before.

Brava!! Sort of the jobs version of "If you want to sing out, sing out" ... don't talk about incentivizing singing out, just effing sing out!

Somebody's gotta cut through the "we won't create any of the jobs we aren't creating if you *gulp* aiseray axestay..." crapola.
