I've been to roughly a third of those places. They really do look like that. The rock on the cracked mud, for instance, is near (not quite in) Death Valley, in a place called Racetrack Playa. It is one of the strangest and most beautiful alien places I've ever seen.
Wow. Thank you. I just sat here in bed with my wife watching the entire thing. She's an amateur (in the true sense of the word) photographer and loved it.
