I thought it was a wonderful episode, and Karen Gillan was amazing. (Her makeup was pretty impressive, too.) And that was a heartbreaker of an ending. I hope they follow up on it, showing how Rory's faith in The Doctor has been undermined.

I love how hard Karen worked to change the little nuances to make an older version of Amy totally believable. I even caught a slight limp or drag in her right leg. Totally awesome. :-)

As for the ending...does anybody get the feeling we're headed pell-mell into Valeyard territory? The Doctor just seems to be breaking Rule 1 a lot more often now.

Or is it that we're just noticing him lying more?

The ending made me cry. It's so Amy for "the older Amy" to make that choice.

Rory is the most awesome companion ever. I love his courage and compassion and occasional "wait, what?".

I'm about ready to throw in the towel. I love Dr Who, like most people I've been a fan since childhood. this season however has been one dissapoinment after another. I only watched the whole of yesterday's garbage because I was sitting with my foot up icing it and torch wood was on afterwards. They could have done better with that one as well. Not last nights ep, but the whole thing.

Agreed. All I have to say is "Why? Why? WHY?" It didn't move the plot line along any. It didn't answer any questions. It seemed like drama for drama's sake. I'm tired of tuning in each week to watch the character's I've grown to care for be tortured.

drama for drama's sake

You have just nailed the philosophy of Stephen Moffatt, Executive Producer. When he was only writing, with someone (RTD) to keep him in check, he produced some excellent work. Not so much, as the man in charge.

Meh. Bored. No emotional connection to Old Amy, rehashed "separated, one waits for the other" bit (isn't it funny how Rory, who waited 2,000 years, had no significant advice -- didn't even MENTION it -- to Old Amy?), Maguffins and inexplicable tech hacks, yet another sample of Moffatt's inevitable choice of melodrama over real scripting. Next Executive Producer, please.

Now, if you want to talk about Torchwood and the future there, we can have a LONG discussion.

Did enjoy DW quite a bit, excellent performances all around. But I'm getting a bit tired of episodes where the Doctor isn't the main character. I know Moffett likes his characters, but they aren't the main character. Let's get back to letting the Doctor driving the story, K?

I was wildly disappointed in TW: Miracle Day. It was a so so two hours of Torchwood episode DRAGGGGED over 10 hours. Davis can do MUCH better.

I thought it was a nice touching episode that subtly pointed out that the Doctor can't save everyone.

I was too distracted by old Amy only having aged in her face but not on her hands or anywhere else to form an opinion of the episode.

Okay, that's a lie. But that did bother me. A little disappointed that there was no plot for the episode beyond 'there are two buttons and because Amy pressed the wrong one now there is a story'. Mostly a fairly solid episode but the dramatic impact was mostly negated by events of this magnitude happening to Rory and Amy every other week at this point. Rather let down by the 'the Doctor has to sit around in the TARDIS' excuse since it meant we were essentially left in another assistant-centric episode in what has been a couple of seasons of the same.

I loved the look of older Amy, and how she was acted. She really was a different character from younger Amy. I didn't mind this being a stand-alone episode, not every one has to be part of the season arc. I hope it does have after-effects with Rory no longer trusting the Doctor.

Now for the parts I didn't like. First, Rory has 2000 years of swordsmanship experience yet was VERY ineffective compared to 36 years of experience Amy. Sorry, that doesn't make sense. Second, older Amy throwing down her sword and pipe while running to the TARDIS? No, she should have MORE than enough experience to know to hang onto them until inside the TARDIS and the TARDIS has left the planet. And finally, how did Amy learn how to make a sonic probe? Sonic screwdrivers are definately suffiently advance technology to humans in any time period; so far only Gallifreyans have had them, so how did Amy learn to make one? That was never explained.

Quick thoughts:

- Rory was on guard duty, not soldiering duty, I think.

- They established that this culture likes to borrow art (and maybe tech?) from other planets. Could Interface have provided instructions to Amy upon request?

I liked this episode a lot. It seems to me that a large part of it was to set up the resolution of being able to change your own destiny, defying your own death. After all, we all know what The Doctor has coming for him...

It also seems that The Doctor is playing a lot more of a heel these days. I'm still wondering just where they're going with that.
