Many casualties at Reno air race as a plane crashes into the stands. May there be as little loss of life as possible, and may the families of the killed and injured have strength and comfort.

Geez. The washingtonpost just ran a story about one of the DC Air National Guard F-16 pilots who was tasked on 9/11/01 with taking down United 93 (it crashed in PA). Problem was, the fighters didn't have ammo so it was going to be a kamikaze mission (the planes had just come back from a training mission and werent hot-cocked)

Fortunately it wasn't necessary.

Double fortunately, the father of one of the F-16 Pilots was a United Pilot himself, but wasn't on it. So Daughter didn't have to kill her own father. The pilot of 93 was a friend of the family's though.

I told you that to tell you this: I'm pretty sure they were mentioned as going to be performing a that air show...

Damn, and I was going to go this year... One more pilot and plane gone, and those in the crowd. My heart wails for them tonight.

Was sitting at the computer when it happened, and I got a CNN alert. Had to immediately stop and call a friend who goes out almost every year for the races. He was two boxes away, and unhurt (and shocked to hear from us). Scared the crap out of me.

This guy also got stranded in Reno during the 9/11 crises and had to drive home to upstate New York. I think he's cursed.
