From here it gets interesting. Any Facebook or Twitter posts I make will now be crossposted here. And apparently I can reciprocate. Which may mean dropping Ping, which is not necessarily bad. We'll find out.

How are your social sites linked up? I've gotta do more with LinkedIn. I don't do anything anymore with MySpace. I post at DreamWidth, which crossposts to LJ, and we'll see if that'll crosspost to FB & Twitter....

ETA: Let's see if the crossposting footer works. If it does, there should be a link back to DW in the LJ post.

ETA2: Testing font size for the footer.

While you're mentioning this, Tom, can you do a favor and include, in the DW post, the link to the corresponding LJ post? That way it's easier to corral comments...

Yeah...Organize, Manage Account, Other Sites, and you can edit the footer settings.

It likely won't show up on this message unless you edit it, mind.

You go to this page (http://www.livejournal.com/support/faqbrowse.bml?faqid=279) and follow the instructions. The changes have to be made on your Extensions tab, and you'll have to log in to FB and allow LJ access. Then your LJ posts go to FB. Don't know how to do it in reverse yet, but I tend to crosspost everything, so this'll save me some b.s.

I'd rather do it in reverse. I mainly use Facebook for sharing links I don't have much comment about, or don't have time to comment about. Twitter I use for short stuff, and LJ (seldom, these days) for long, more thoughtful posts.

LJ (and Dreamwidth) seems the best archive for this stuff. It's certainly the most workable of the three options, at least in my opinion.

If you find a way to auto post from FB to LJ please let me know! I would love to have all my FB posts archived in LJ.

Occasionally, when I'm feeling particularly wild and crazy, I write words on paper with ink, put them in an envelope, apply a stamp, and let the postal service take it away. In a day (or two or three or more), it arrives in some other part of the country.

Then I send an IM and ask if it arrived.

I uss the Selective Tweets app on Facebook to selectively grab tweets to post as status updates. Otherwise, nothing is linked up -- and I prefer it that way. For me, each social outlet requires its own type of content.

I use an extension in Chrome that makes it easy to share on multiple services and is easily configurable (I even recently added Google +1 which didn't exist yet when I first installed it).

Does this work with Chrome in Incogneto mode? I've found that Facebook's latest update means the site can not be read past the first page when using Incogneto mode (it works fine if I start it normally).

I'm sticking with LJ. My office doesn't block it and it doesn't have the scandals and bad behavior I see on facebook (well it MAY have those same problems but I don't hear about it as much).

Me?
  • I post quickies to Twitter, which feeds into Facebook.
  • I post longer entries to Dreamwidth, which copies to both LiveJournal and InsaneJournal.
  • LiveJournal imports my public tweets as well (with heading and date in Cyrillic now).
I used to use Twittenesis to copy my tweets (including @person-directed ones) into DW thus LJ per bullet 2 above, but they've disappeared.

I tend not to post directly on FB or G+, just commenting and Like/+1'ing.

What's the diff between LJ and Dreamwidth? They look a lot alike.

Side note, we finally found out what's wrong with my cat. He has pancreatitis. With luck we can control it with meds, but getting him to take the pills is a challenge. It took 5 minutes to get the first pill in him and it wasn't even a very big pill!

Without getting deeply into the politics, DW is an LJ fork (with several actually-useful features added), managed by actual principles, including openness and transparency. A lot of fandom (mainly fanfic) moved there when LJ was doing some of its crackdowns and doing its stupidity a year or two back. For more information, check their ethos and ideas statement.

I do not speak for and am not affiliated with Dreamwidth Studios, other than as a site user.

I post to DW, which cross-posts to LJ. I have a second DW account for my "Something for Thursday" project which is over now, but also automatically cross-posts to my LJ.

I also have FB which neither cross-posts nor is cross-posted to. I use it mostly for games, event invites and to post short random things that I want people to know about. (Lots of recall notices on my FB)

I don't do the twitters (I'm long-winded, so it's a bad idea) and never had a MySpace.

There may or may not be an extremely outdated LinkedIn profile for me, but I haven't felt any urges to go check.

I don't link my sites as a rule. I do have my Twitter feed mirrored from my Facebook business page, because that's the only thing I use it for. If/when I get my Etsy shop up, I may mirror that to Twitter and hence to LJ, which is something I've noticed a couple of my friends doing and think is a good idea.

The problem I encounter with people who link everything to everything else is, effectively, spam -- especially on Facebook. I get the Facebook post, and then the link to the LJ post of the Facebook post, and the link to the Twitter feed of the Facebook post, and the link to the Twitter feed of the LJ post of the Facebook post, and the link to the LJ post of the Twitter feed of the Facebook post, and... you get the idea. By the time I've seen exactly the same information on anywhere from 6 to 20 posts, I'm ready to put somebody on my Hidden list.

I don't want to do that to people, so I think very carefully about what my links are going to do.

ETA: Oh, and I forgot to mention that I do my original posting at DreamWidth and mirror it over to LJ, because it's trivially easy to do it in that direction and not so much in the other. But effectively my DW account is a mirror site for my LJ account. I do my reading/commenting over here for the most part.

I just recently unlinked my Twitter from my Facebook. I've started using them in different ways now, although there is still the occasional post I cross post to everything.

My LJ account is used mostly to feed other places, since it publishes an easy to read RSS feed. My News postings over at DevoSpice.com get added to my LJ, which then gets picked up by my Devo Spice fan page on Facebook, and a couple other sites that can import RSS.

I use Google+ a bit and tend to cross post my Facebook postings there. But mostly I use it to talk privately to my Spice Rack subscribers. I have a special circle so I can post things that only they will see. Most of my subscribers are on Google+ so it works out.

I still have a MySpace account, but I never use it. That site became unusable several years ago and I just gave up on it. The only reason I don't delete my account is because there are a couple people, including people who book me for gigs, who only know to contact me through MySpace.

I am an oddity, I don't link my Twitter (rarely post or read there), Facebook, or LiveJournal together. I also have an InsaneJournal which I keep alive but don't use yet. I am not on Dreamwatch, unless I created an account there that I forgot about. I don't see a big need to link FB and LJ together for myself. I seam to be posting mostly to FB right now, I need to do more LJ posts (I read here every day as soon as I get home from work), so maybe I should link them after all. I check Google-Plus a few times a week, still not using it much.
