Could be much worse. I've been trying to install a new system drive to replace the old one (which has not gone yet, and which is thoroughly backed up, I can be taught), but between swapping hardware and changing drive letters and such, I've managed to make my main computer unbootable. I can do a clean install, but that means digging for all my disks. Note my joy.

On the other hand, a system is usually much perkier after a clean install.

How's your day so far?

ETA: EPIC WIN.

It took two very basic installs of XP SP2 (using a slipstream disk) and a little bit of three-hard-drive Monte in the registry, but I am apparently back to where I was on Wednesday, except my C: drive is now 500 GB rather than 160 and it's not making that annoying cricket noise. Haven't unattached the old drive yet; may not. But I'm not gonna use it for anything important. And DriveImage XML worked like a champ.

Hahhhhhhh. Muuuuuch better.

Woke up about half an hour ago after some very strange sleep. I'll be heading for an eye appointment shortly. Other than that, still trying to shake whatever it is that hit me on Monday - severe chills, pain everywhere, but no fever or congestion. It's gotten better but is not yet gone. Who knows.
My main (by now the main really is more of an epithet than a designation) computer is still unhappy, unstable and mostly unusable. Good luck with yours!

I think your hard drive took my wireless mouse with it.

Did you change the batteries? That tends to be the majority of problems I see at work with Wireless mice/keyboards. (Sorry, but the obvious needs to get asked sometimes. I had a device at work that had that solution recently.)

It's a rechargeable battery with docking station. I charged it to full, and it doesn't seem to have helped. It's registering single clicks as double clicks and not wanting to click-hold or click-drag.

What brand do you have? I have a logitech mrbq124 and I'm having the same problems, single clicks being interperted as double clicks. It started a few months ago and I had that mouse for about 2.5 years. My friend has the same mouse as I and he's having that sort of problem too.

Logitech LZ644BK here, and I'm thinking it's about 2-3 years old. I'm just glad I've got a backup corded mouse; I'm trying to do some file management this weekend, and not being able to click-drag is making me crazy.

I wonder if this happens to all cordless mice or did we just get unlucky?

I used to love cordless mice. I got sick of replacing batteries and having to replace it in the charger and dropping the signal from a distance of five feet and eight gazillion special buttons and now I just use corded mice and I'm MUCH happier.

The main reason I had to go cordless was because one of my cats like to plop himself down in the mouse area to keep me company. It made it impossible to use a corded mouse. By going cordless he could do that and I would still have a mouse to use. I didn't have any problems with the range since I never went very far.

I will admit it took a while to get in the habit of putting it in the charger and once or twice I had to delay my computer game time because I didn't put it in the charger just right and the mouse was almost out of juice.

I did check out the logitech site for the double click problems. They said to disable the "single click opens item" http://logitech-en-amr.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/logitech_en_amr.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=13787 I don't know if it will help us, but it's something. I also saw a new cordless mouse that could take a mini-USB cord for when you run out of charge, getting the best of both worlds. But it's $100. Looks like I'll have to save my Best Buy gift cards for a while.

have my great-aunt's 90th b-day party, at her daughter's house in Belleville......directly across the street from my daughter/first ex's house. Yes, my second cousin Diane, and Shelly have been neighbors for past six yrs. Dad and I figured this out a month ago LOL.

Good luck with the switch-out, GMoF!

Tom, were you able to boot your system? If not, I would check the jumper settings on back of the hard drives, and check with the manual settings to see if they are set properly. If you have questions, just drop me a line.

I am getting a new video card and power supply for my main computer. Toying with the idea of getting a new tower case for it, but waiting on the word from the computer guru as to if he will have time while he is visiting. Every time I mess with a mother board it never works again, so I am not touching it.

Now that I actually have 2 days in a row off from work and I am not totally exhausted, I am planning today to get the rest of my music and books uploaded to my computer. Also have to finish the plans for the doggie ramp and make a supply list. Hmm oh yeah and research a new to me author that I have so far found amusing. Oh and try to find parts for my Isuzu Trooper.

Hmm maybe I am too tired after all today =p.

I bought the Ghostbusters game for the PS3 soon after it came out and this morning I popped it in for the first time. It's a bit tough on casual (keep in mind I'm not a very good player) in having to remember what everything does. (Does circle or square throw the trap?) But apart from that it's fun.

My order from Amazon arrived. Got the new "They Might Be Giants" CD and a book about the philosophy of relative morality. (Has to do with the monkey circle theory I was told about here last week.)

Yesterday was hell though at work. I accidentally released some code before the client paid for it and the boss was livid. I panicked and played dumb while covering my tracks. I'm surprised I made it through the day. Of course if he investigates much deeper, I'm doomed. I'll have to see what happens Monday. Probably not the best course, but at the time it seemed better than the alternative.

Working on a friends laptop, had to order a new drive cause the old one fried. Tried to boot the CD to start an image and the disc is no longer readable. Time to get a new copy of the disc. I should have had a couple backups.

Tech support for Tom? ;)

My day has consisted of dealing with my cold (still), a couple of stupid calls at work (of which I expect many more... they tend to let the idiots serve in Tier 1 on the weekends even moreso than during the week), and the serious consideration that I'll want to re-image my laptop... which is currently my casting machine for Dementia Radio.

OTOH, last night I found out that even in its annoying-the-hell-out-of-me state, I can record and cast to the station at the same time, something I didn't think was viable without two sound cards. Huh.

Hmm. I hadn't seen that Driveimage XML before. That could be useful for helping friends (not to mention me ...).

I just finished ripping some 300+ CD to the new Music computer. I just turned it off to move it to its permanent home in the stereo stack. A KVM switch lets me control it from the same head I use for all the other computers.

A 400 gig Raid holds the music. The computer runs openSUSE 11 Linux. I ripped in Wave format to keep the best quality. I can encode to MP3 if I want to use the music in my portable player.

Yes, a good many of Tom's disks are in there too. I hope you have some new stuff (New as in since Penguicon Tom.)
