Coming next summer from Pixar.

(The comments are hilarious, right out of Ain't It Cool News. Nobody thinks Pixar films look any good from their trailers. And a lot of people say this has a Dreamworks vibe, as if that's a problem [Kung Fu Panda, Shrek, How To Train Your Dragon]....)

A Disney Princess who does not sing and can kick major ass on horseback? I can get behind this.

Proving once again that Pixar is the better half of the merger.

Looks good. I've really enjoyed the Pixar movies that I've seen and this one seems to be aimed at more than just the little ones. I'll probablly go see it when it comes out.

So it only took Pixar 16 years to learn that girls exist. Good for them. Here's their Privileged-White-Male-Computer-Geek cookie.

Maybe someday they'll get REALLY brave and believe that people of color exist too. (Oh yeah, we have Russell in UP - one whole non-white animated character who isn't a flippin' stereotype like the Cheech low-rider and black-voiced Cadillac in CARS.)

I didn't know Frozone was white.

Oh, right - and one Black Best Friend of the Actual White Protagonist. You're right, adding Frozone *doubles* the number of POC Pixar's animated.

Elastigirl was a man? You'd think there would have been protests over a gay marriage in a Pixar/Disney film, especially when their son cross-dresses and calls himself Violet.

Colette's a dude too? Never would have guessed.

Uh huh.

* The Incredibles - I'll give you that one. True, it mainly focuses on Bob's mid-life crisis and alienation from his family, Bob keeping secrets from everyone, Bob doing clandestine work that forces him to confront his past - but Helen does kick some ass to protect her kids - in reaction to the crap Bob kicked up.

* Ratatouille - oh, right, how could I forget The Gorgeous French Babe who's conveniently the only woman in the film, and who falls in love with the talentless ugly boy-schlub only because a boy-schlub wrote the script? (AKA the "Judd Apatow maneuver.") A token 5-second speech about the "stupid old men" who make the rules about chefs is ironic coming from the only female character with lines in the entire film - there isn't even a female rat in the colony.

I have an uneasy suspicion that this is going to go down about as well in Scotland as Hercules did in Greece and Mulan did in China...

Yup, I will be there--this mom will however put in two cents for a Disney animated movie about a girl who gets through the whole thing without becoming a princess in any way, shape or form.
