Bethesda is rolling out the 1.2 patch for the PS3 version of The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim, with the PC and XBox 360 patches estimated for tomorrow. As always, don't believe it until you see it.

Meantime, here's the combined themes from Morrowind and Skyrim:

If you know of any great gaming or anime music online, why not link us up? Let's get the two biggies out of the way first: VGMusic and Final Fantasy VII: Voices of the Lifestream.

VotL is just one of many fantastic OCRemix (http://www.ocremix.org) projects, by the way...

I used to be big into anime music. I remember my first convention after I got a job. Spent about $300 on anime soundtrack CDs (this was over 12 years ago) and I still have them. I discovered that if I liked an anime series, I liked either the opening or closing music and if I didn't like the OP/EP songs I didn't like the series either.

You should try Bleach, last I heard they had a dozen or so OPs/EPs, as they switch every so often. You might find something in there you like. =)

The kind of anime I liked told a story that had a beginning, middle, and end. Anime series like DBZ, Pokemon, Bleach, Naruto, etc are open ended and have hundreds of episodes each. That's too big of a commitment for me.

The opening and closing themes are big influences for me. I ended up watching Ao No Exorcist about five episodes longer than it really deserves, partly on the strength of the theme music. And I love reprises mid-episode with different arrangements, e.g., slow piano or strings.

Lament of the Highborne from WoW is a really good one. One thing is certain, Blizzard knows how to put some good music together.

You know, this put me in the mind of the ending credits of Firefly.

Wasn't the opening half actually the Emperor's Theme from Oblivion, though? I haven't played Morrowind in so long, though, it could have been the same.

The audio you're thinking of is "Reign of the Septims (http://youtu.be/E3kV1QqQIDM)", and, yeah, they used that musical base... but it was first done more slowly as the theme of Morrowind (http://youtu.be/ZWuNf4gxwuM), complete with those drumbeats under the Bethesda logo.

Honestly, that's part of why I love Oblivion -- "These are the closing days of the Third Era... and the final hours of my life." BOOM! Reprise that gorgeous theme, arranged for ass-kicking. For those of you who don't know what we're talking about, here -- have some CGI Patrick Stewart:

Man, by the time that ended, I was completely broken down in tears. And the old Emperor is right--you never want to see that war machine coming through the gate...I have and it chilled me the seat of my chair.

It's striking comparing the graphics of Oblivion to Skyrim, knowing that they were both cutting edge at the time of release. The Skyrim graphics and sound are so realistic that they act on the Reptilian brain.

This isn't game music per se, but the web series "Extra Credits" here: http://penny-arcade.com/patv/show/extra-credits uses rock-ified video game music in the outro. The series is about the making of games and things related to the game industry. I don't play many kinds of games, but I find it to be very interesting because they treat games as a medium.

SHADDAP I'M PLAYING SKYRIM

Seriously, Best Game Ever. It just keeps getting bigger, and it's dangerous and exciting and fun and everything. And the rotten bastards at Bethesda put some birds flying overhead, and their shadows keep spooking me, because I think it's a dragon, and after about eight times I was blowing it off and then came the dragon and I just about wet 'em.

They do that to me, too, damn it. I wonder if I can shoot the birds with my arrows. Haven't tried. They freak me out again and I may do so.

Have you found any interesting bugs? I heard there were some. Like how you can put pots and boxes over people's heads and steal from them. I also heard about a floating old lady who then sinks into the ground.

No, other than the bug where horses can walk up sheer surfaces. Games much more bug-free than Oblivion at the same time after release.

There are a number of bugs; I haven't encountered 'em yet. I also have not got the new patch, which apparently causes more problems than it solves for many people, and will have the first corrective patch rolled out next week....
