The REAL Ghostbusters is the one with Tracy the Gorilla. Pbbbt. And that's out on DVD also, by the way. I had Bob Burns, who manned the gorilla suit, sign my copy.

My copy of Public Enemies is already shipped, but I think I do need me some Wizard of Oz.

I do have fond memories of that flavor of Ghostbusters. Also of Monster Squad.

Just so everyone knows what we're talking about, here's the opening from the ORIGINAL Ghostbusters:

Which, interestingly enough, was based on an EARLIER film!

ROFL! (But how could the "original" picture not have had Bing Crosby in it?}

I grew up on the '70s show, which has one of the best theme songs of the whole kids'-live-action genre (second only to that of the even more obscure series The Kids From C.A.P.E.R..

I'm glad someone remembers 'The Kids from Caper!' I was into Shazam!, which starred Captain Marvel, currently the most underrated and misused hero in DC comics.

That is incorrect. Spencer, Tracy and Kong were the Original Ghostbusters. The "Real" Ghostbusters (the show's official title) were the animated version of the movie. Which, by the way, had J. Michael Straczynski as story editor. (Joe's book, The Complete Book of Screenwriting, contains a sample from a script.)

What she's saying is that Spencer, Tracy and Kong are, to her, the "real" Ghostbusters. "The Real Ghostbusters" was named that precisely because Spencer, Tracy and Kong were there first.

I owe you an apology. I thought you meant the other Ghostbusters cartoon with the gorilla. I had no idea it was also a live action show. I wonder if either cartoon gives a tip of the hat to the original.

The cartoon with the gorilla was based on the live action series with the gorilla and both were produced by Filmation. I think they gave themselves permission.

The gorilla is a personal friend of mine, so I may be excused some bias in the matter.

I've tried watching HIMYM just for the NPH. Unfortunately, he's not enough. =/

I wouldn't mind if the Real Ghostbusters listing on Amazon had more details and was faster to load. I had a torrent of the series. If memory serves, the second season had more episodes than all the other seasons combined (may have to check wikipedia). If it wasn't over $100, I'd get it in a heartbeat.

And it's a whole lot better than the rip-off show with the PacMan style ghosts and the magic clothes removing matress.

First season was Syndicated, so it would have had a LOT more episodes. After that, the series was picked up by ABC and the quality started to deteriorate, IMO. The fact that Lorenzo Music was no longer Peter was a major factor. (Buster Jones replacing Arsineo Hall was almost unnoticeable.)

OMG, The Real Ghostbusters!

Too bad it's so darn expensive. I plan to get it, but maybe I'll wait for a while first and see if the price goes down.

That Real Ghostbusters set is the same one they had via Time/Life last year. It's all 8 seasons of The Real Ghostbusters plus Slimer and the Real Ghostbusters (the lame spinoff/retread the series became).

It comes in a Firehouse display case. It's something like 27 discs.

It is at the top of my X-mas list.

This has nothing to do with anything, but I just discovered there's an unaired pilot for the American Life on Mars with Colm Meany playing Hunt, a different squad, and a different girl. Apparently the suits had many many notes.

The trailer did have a good line -- after Hunt slugs Tyler in the gut, he says cheerfully, "And this concludes your orientation!"

Ultraman: The Complete Series (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B002DQSKLU/) is out on DVD. I remember seeing it when I was a kid. I'm tempted to pick it up even though I know it won't match my memories.

I am crying over this. I spent $65 to hunt down the volume 1 and volume 2 of this series. And now it is out in one collection for $10. Taint fair I tells you!!

I understand completely. There's a DVD collection I paid over $150 for that can now be had for about $35. *sigh*

And I paid full-price for a few seasons of Babylon 5 that are in a box around here somewhere, and they've been down to $20 each for awhile now.

That I did not do. In fact, I just got around to picking up the seasons I was missing in the past month.

A lot of stuff I look at now and say Eh, I'll buy that when I see it really cheap in the "new and used" section on Amazon. I really started doing that fter paying full price for both Flags of our Fathers and Letters From Iwo Jima, and then seeing them on the ultra-cheap rack within months. That's also why I'm not buying the new animated Batman/Superman movie you mentioned above. Based on the earlier titles of that type I'll be able to buy it for almost nothing in a few months. I just picked up a sealed copy of the Wonder Woman movie for $4.

Oh yeah, having watched about half of the series, I get thrown off by the episodes where the voice actor who did Racer X in Speed Racer was the guest star. I kept expecting him to refer to Hiro as Speed. The funny thing is those also tended to be the better episodes for plot (maybe different writers did the dub of those episodes).

It's been so many years since I've seen it that I have only vague memories of it. I do have one distinct memory of the main character running out of a restaurant to confront a menace that suddenly appears. He goes to hold up the device he uses for the transformation and nothing happens. He looks up and realizes he's holding a spoon.

Kings. Which I thought had a shitload of potential, and never mind the biblical origins of the story. Mind you, without Ian McShane it might well have been a complete bust (although they had a hell of a cast.)
