Jerome Lawrence passes away
Date: 2004-03-02 08:32 am (UTC)Here's the story in The New York Times. (http://www.nytimes.com/2004/03/02/theater/02LAWR.html?ex=1393563600&en=6f6d4fbb94b8f90d&ei=5007&partner=USERLAND)

Date: 2004-03-02 02:13 pm (UTC)In 1986, I got to meet Jerome Lawrence, while attending the International Thespian Society festival in Muncie, Indiana. He gave a wonderful speech about being an amateur theatre person, concluding with "Never forget that amateur means 'lover'. So even if you decide to make a career out of theatre, never give up your status as an 'amateur' -- never give up the love that brought you here."
Got to shake his hand afterwards, and exchanged a few words. Very pleasent guy, and one of my happier memories of that week.

Date: 2004-03-02 03:07 pm (UTC)Have you read "Winterfair Gifts" in Irresistible Forces (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0451211111/tomsmithonlin-20)? Great stuff.
Cleaning tonight and tomorrow, as well as more web page conversion. A big heapin' helping of audio for the weekend.
Re: ARRR!!
Date: 2004-03-02 03:08 pm (UTC)And, no, I hadn't seen Evil Stevie's Pirate Game, but it's definitely linkworthy. (Speaking of games, Atari and Firaxis are re-releasing an updated version of Sid Meier's Pirates! this summer, and they've invited the Pirate Guys to be part of the release festivities. We're having way too much fun with this thing...)
I read it too
Date: 2004-03-02 03:11 pm (UTC)Was DI written before "WG"? It seems to have much less detail about the wedding than we'd expect -- but then, Bujold's viewpoint characters are notoriously unreliable. :-)
I am SUCH a child of the 80's....
(And hi there. It's Kirsten, late of alt.callahans - very late, actually; it's probably been a couple of years since I posted there regularly. LJ fulfills that need for me quite nicely....)

Date: 2004-03-03 05:34 pm (UTC)Also, just thought you might find this interesting. Apparently someone other than myself likes your songs at UMass Amherst, as someone has copied out the chorus to Walking Along the Beach onto the English Department quote board.

Date: 2004-03-03 06:27 pm (UTC)Yes, "Winterfair Gifts" is the story of Miles and Ekaterin's wedding. I don't want to give away a thing, but it's... unusual.

Date: 2004-03-04 12:46 pm (UTC)Unusual? With Miles involved? ^_^
