Growf. Darn Jerome Lawrence, one of the authors (along with Robert Lee) of Inherit the Wind, has died at the age of 88.

Here's the story in The New York Times. (http://www.nytimes.com/2004/03/02/theater/02LAWR.html?ex=1393563600&en=6f6d4fbb94b8f90d&ei=5007&partner=USERLAND)

Damn.

In 1986, I got to meet Jerome Lawrence, while attending the International Thespian Society festival in Muncie, Indiana. He gave a wonderful speech about being an amateur theatre person, concluding with "Never forget that amateur means 'lover'. So even if you decide to make a career out of theatre, never give up your status as an 'amateur' -- never give up the love that brought you here."

Got to shake his hand afterwards, and exchanged a few words. Very pleasent guy, and one of my happier memories of that week.

Oddly enough, Talk Like A Pirate Day. Did you ever get that wonderful song recorded?

And welcome to LiveJournal!

ARRR!!

PAT! Hi there! Actually, it's gonna be on the next album, which I'm hoping to have before summer.

Can't remember -- did you ever see Evil Stevie's Pirate Game (http://www.io.com/~sj/PirateGame.html)?

Oooh, excellent news about the song. Get in touch with us if we can help promote the album!

And, no, I hadn't seen Evil Stevie's Pirate Game, but it's definitely linkworthy. (Speaking of games, Atari and Firaxis are re-releasing an updated version of Sid Meier's Pirates! this summer, and they've invited the Pirate Guys to be part of the release festivities. We're having way too much fun with this thing...)

Dinner. Dance translation. Digging into the next Bujold novel on my reading list. Adam Baldwin making a cameo on 'Angel' (*swoon*). Sending a huge pile of cuddles and smooches to my friend Tom for finally manifesting on LiveJournal.

And you?

Dearheart! How are you? Cuddles and smooches right back atcha.

Have you read "Winterfair Gifts" in Irresistible Forces (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0451211111/tomsmithonlin-20)? Great stuff.

Cleaning tonight and tomorrow, as well as more web page conversion. A big heapin' helping of audio for the weekend.

I read it too

Now we know what Miles was talking about when he referred to the "difficult" wedding in Diplomatic Immunity.

Was DI written before "WG"? It seems to have much less detail about the wedding than we'd expect -- but then, Bujold's viewpoint characters are notoriously unreliable. :-)

Ooh! I need to get that! Is that the wedding story?

Also, just thought you might find this interesting. Apparently someone other than myself likes your songs at UMass Amherst, as someone has copied out the chorus to Walking Along the Beach onto the English Department quote board.

Gawd, send me a photograph of that, if you can.

Yes, "Winterfair Gifts" is the story of Miles and Ekaterin's wedding. I don't want to give away a thing, but it's... unusual.

I've actually got a camera that needs using up. I'll go nab it over the weekend.

Unusual? With Miles involved? ^_^

I am SUCH a child of the 80's....

I read the phrase "What's on your mind" and immediately follow it with "Pure energy." Sad, really.

(And hi there. It's Kirsten, late of alt.callahans - very late, actually; it's probably been a couple of years since I posted there regularly. LJ fulfills that need for me quite nicely....)
