Looks like it's going to be a fun movie summer. One flick which hasn't got a lot of press yet (it's been in limited release for a month, see Rotten Tomatoes for more info) is The Lost Skeleton of Cadavra, which has to me the same vibe as Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow.

So, what movies are you all looking forward to this year? Besides Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, that is.

forward??

Oh, for -- okay, that's how you celebrate finishing the move. Sunday at noon, you stop everything, pile into the van, and head over the the Multiplex. Large popcorn, no pop. Trust me on this.

Its a thought. Will depend on who's around and what's going on. Must mention it to Toph, tho, he hasn't seen it either and pouted when he thought I was going to see it without him. Of course, if you wanted to show up on my doorstep Sunday afternoon to make sure I went out to see it I wouldn't argue....

LSoC isn't quite the same thing as SCatWoT -- the latter seems to be a straightforward homage, where as LSoC is a parody through reporoduction. It's deadly accurate, and often funny, but it's also about half an hour too long.

Yep, as the creators say in the text of the Boskone panel about the movie, "It's not just a parody of a b-movie, it *is* a B-Movie" :)

Lost Skeleton, for certain, and also Hellboy, 'cause even though I'm not a big comics fan, I adore Ron Perlman and will gladly see anything he's in.

Spider-Man 2, Hellboy, Sky Captain, Troy, Harry Potter, Ladykillers, I, Robot, JM Barrie's Neverland, The Incredibles

Of the above, The only ones I'm sure I will like are Ladykillers - my favorite actor, Tom Hanks, and my favorite directors, the Coen brothers - and The Incredibles, from Pixar. Everything else has much promise but also just enough to make me wait to hear the reviews.

Boskone had a thing about Lost Skeleton, looked like good fun.

Most definitely looking forward to PoA and Sky Captain, but I'm hopefully going to see Hidalgo pretty soon. I'm a history geek with a nitpicker streak, so I love "based on a true story" action movies. It's kinda like seeing "Deep Impact" with my father the rocket scientist. He twitched a lot.

I dunno, I'm still in mourning that there's not another LotR movie to look forward too. ;)

Sky Captain and HP mostly.

Opening this very weekend, I'm looking forward to seeing "Hidalgo", which looks to be a good old fashioned adventure flick the likes of which we haven't seen in a good, long while.

As Roger Ebert notes in his review: "...if you do not have some secret place in your soul that still responds even a little to brave cowboys, beautiful princesses and noble horses, then you are way too grown up and need to cut back on cable news. "

I wasn't too fond of that quip by Ebert, as I never watch cable news and still have very little interest in those items. Now, cynical cowboys with hearts of gold, tomboys princesses, and non-anthropomorphized horse, those I like.

The extended DVD of "Return of The King"!

Um, what else? Pixar's "Invincibles". "Troy". "Spiderman 2". "Shrek 2".

And, yeah, HP3, which is based on my favorite of the Harry Potter books and I have high hopes for it.

Sigh, it's sad that nothing else is readily coming to mind. Hopefully, the movie calendar in 2004 will be full of pleasant surprises.

And just think, in 2005 we get to see Mr. Depp as Willie Wonka. I don't see many movies in the theater anymore, but that one is already starred and circled on my calendar.

Oh, absolutely! Because if there is anything better than a movie starring Johnny Depp, it's a Tim Burton-directed movie starring Johnny Depp based on one of my favorite books as a kid. I can't wait.

2005 will also bring us the first Narnia movie, which despite being financed by Disney, I am keeping the faith will live up to high expectations. It will pick up those creative New Zealand vibes and it will be good.

Speaking of which, I gotta figure Peter Jackson will spring "King Kong" on us about then, too.

I'd like another X-Men movie in 2005, too.

But Tom did ask what we were looking forward to in 2004... :)

Ohhh, tell me all about X3 and Kong. (Although I'm also waiting for the restored original Kong they premiered in England awhile back.) But remember that, while it may be the first American cinema Narnia, there have been a couple of TV versions, including at least one animated one:

The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe (animated - Childrens' Television Workshop; directed by Bill "Charlie Brown" Melendez; VHS only) (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/6302880777/tomsmithonlin-20)

The Chronicles of Narnia - The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (BBC TV) (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000069CFB/tomsmithonlin-20)

The Chronicles of Narnia - The Silver Chair (BBC TV) (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000069CFF/tomsmithonlin-20)

The Chronicles of Narnia - Prince Caspian and the Voyage of the Dawn Treader (BBC TV) (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000069CFD/tomsmithonlin-20)

The Chronicles of Narnia (3 DVD set) (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000069CFH/tomsmithonlin-20)

Full disclosure: All of these are Amazon Affiliate links, i.e., if you purchase through these links, I get a cut. :) Hope you don't mind.

I've seen the BBC version of Narnia, many years ago, but it didn't really do much for me. My biggest problem, I fear, was the girl playing Lucy, who just wasn't anything like the Lucy I had imagined when I read the books.

I've seen the animated version of "The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe", too. I remember thinking it was pretty good, close to the characters and the story.

If I was showing a version to the class I would go with the animated version over the BBC versions. I'm holding out high hopes, though, for the new movie in pre-production. Gotta look forward to something now that the Ring movies are done :).

For my own part, I'm hoping Spider-Man 2 has a really good script. The trailers are promising, and for HPatPoA they look positively wonderful.

Hellboy also looks like fun. And Troy might have The Stuff as well.

What's got me bemused, though, is that, so far, none of you have mentioned Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Around the World in 80 Days (w/Jackie Chan), The Stepford Wives (w/Nicole Kidman, yum), Walking Tall (w/The Rock), Kill Bill Vol. 2, The Punisher, Shrek 2, Van Helsing, or, my favorite, Benji Returns: Rags to Riches (directed by, no lie, someone named Joe Camp).

Stepford Wives...Walking Tall...***BENJI***? The seventies sucked the first time around, guys. Why, oh why do we have to relive them?

Leslie (OK,... Starsky & Hutch was kinda funny,... but that's it!)

I'm not sure whether to cringe or hope at the prospect of the remake of The Ladykillers.

And, yes, Vincent and Kathryn will make sure I see the H.P. flick.

Definitely Sky Captain. If I can take the kids to Hidalgo, that would be fun. Other than that...wait and see, wait and see.

Oh, and the three-DVD set of Lord of the Rings!

I gave my boyfriend a postcard for "The Lost Skeleton..." for Valentine's day, since it doesn't start here until the 12th. So, he's getting my V-day present almost a month late. He's also dying to see "Sky Captain..."
