Coming Soon To A Theater Near You
Mar. 5th, 2004 11:11 amLooks like it's going to be a fun movie summer. One flick which hasn't got a lot of press yet (it's been in limited release for a month, see Rotten Tomatoes for more info) is The Lost Skeleton of Cadavra, which has to me the same vibe as Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow.
So, what movies are you all looking forward to this year? Besides Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, that is.

Date: 2004-03-05 09:37 am (UTC)Most definitely looking forward to PoA and Sky Captain, but I'm hopefully going to see Hidalgo pretty soon. I'm a history geek with a nitpicker streak, so I love "based on a true story" action movies. It's kinda like seeing "Deep Impact" with my father the rocket scientist. He twitched a lot.

Date: 2004-03-05 10:53 am (UTC)As Roger Ebert notes in his review: "...if you do not have some secret place in your soul that still responds even a little to brave cowboys, beautiful princesses and noble horses, then you are way too grown up and need to cut back on cable news. "

Date: 2004-03-05 11:04 am (UTC)Um, what else? Pixar's "Invincibles". "Troy". "Spiderman 2". "Shrek 2".
And, yeah, HP3, which is based on my favorite of the Harry Potter books and I have high hopes for it.
Sigh, it's sad that nothing else is readily coming to mind. Hopefully, the movie calendar in 2004 will be full of pleasant surprises.

Date: 2004-03-05 02:12 pm (UTC)2005 will also bring us the first Narnia movie, which despite being financed by Disney, I am keeping the faith will live up to high expectations. It will pick up those creative New Zealand vibes and it will be good.
Speaking of which, I gotta figure Peter Jackson will spring "King Kong" on us about then, too.
I'd like another X-Men movie in 2005, too.
But Tom did ask what we were looking forward to in 2004... :)

Date: 2004-03-05 07:56 pm (UTC)I've seen the animated version of "The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe", too. I remember thinking it was pretty good, close to the characters and the story.
If I was showing a version to the class I would go with the animated version over the BBC versions. I'm holding out high hopes, though, for the new movie in pre-production. Gotta look forward to something now that the Ring movies are done :).

Date: 2004-03-05 11:08 am (UTC)Hellboy also looks like fun. And Troy might have The Stuff as well.
What's got me bemused, though, is that, so far, none of you have mentioned Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Around the World in 80 Days (w/Jackie Chan), The Stepford Wives (w/Nicole Kidman, yum), Walking Tall (w/The Rock), Kill Bill Vol. 2, The Punisher, Shrek 2, Van Helsing, or, my favorite, Benji Returns: Rags to Riches (directed by, no lie, someone named Joe Camp).
