The Bush Administration is all over the news today, decrying how former National Security Chief Richard Clarke is full of it, claiming the Bushies were so obcessed with Iraq and getting Saddam Hussein that they let every other aspect of terrorism, particularly Al Queda, lapse to the wayside. How dare they infer stuff like that! The New York Times buried the story on page 18, and had Judith Miller, a known Republican shill, on the byline. The right-wing radio shows are abuzz with how this is oh-so-political.

Small problem. The Center for American Progress has come up with a timeline, based solely on internal government documents, of what a goooood job ShrubCo did of protecting the country, i.e., not.

Oh my goodness! You mean that the government, our government, is involved in lies and a coverup? I'm ever so shocked and surprised!

Ann Curry was interviewing Chris Matthews on the Today show about Clarke's book and what it had to say. Matthews was showing his right-wing stance so strong while trying to cover it I almost broke out in laughter. He eventually started attacking John Kerry after a couple of minutes of opening his mouth and swapping feet.

The most accurate thing I've heard from my fellow members of the mainstream press is how folks are afraid to speak out against Shrub because they'll "be viewed as unpatriotic." Even CBS, the network that used to be known for breaking through crap, is now engaged in protecting the Republicans. Sigh...oh for the days of William Paley....
