I'm sure you're all looking forward to this one (it opens April 9). I have no idea how I missed it -- I literally hadn't heard of it at all until tonight. But Ella Enchanted, with Anne Hathaway and Cary Elwes, looks like a frickin' live-action Shrek. And that is a good thing.

I saw a preview of it last Wednesday. I'm sure I would have enjoyed a lot more had I been a 14-year-old girl.

That does look good! And I hadn't heard of it either... though the title made me do a double-take at first. :-)

Personally, I'm concerned about this movie. It's based off the WONDERFUL YA book by Gail Carson Levine. Just reading the cast list off IMDB bothers me. Cary Elwes playing the regent? What regent? There's no regent in this book? Benny the Book? The book gets a name? Why? It's a plot device. Sure it's magical, but not sentient.

The original book was a wonderful retelling of the Cinderella tale. Ella got her traditional kick-butt characterization back, and got modernized without losing the fairy tale aspect.

Sorry for the demi-rant, but Cinderella is a passion for me, and this book is one of my favorite versions. This movie...sigh. I'll see it, but I'll probably be glad my little sister works at the theater. I ain't paying a dime.

I haven't read the book, but the synopsis looks promising.
but since you're probably gonna watch it before me (there still sin't a release date here in Israel. that is, if it will be released to theaters here), i expect your review to know if it's worthwhile or not.

well... I liked the book very much. I'm a bit dubious about the movie but am willing to give it a shot at some point. After all, I loved the movie of Princess Bride (though I still think the overall story loses somewhat by leaving out the kid as misfit parts). Anyway - Maybe it will instead be as AWFUL as the movie version of another delightful book "The Neverending Story". blllllech.
