Hey, gang. Got the computer almost completely spiffed up (and I do mean spiffed up -- fresh install, much leaner software mix, new drive, lookin' sharp), and after I find two more software registrations and one game disk I'll be able to make The Ultimate Clean Backup Disk. I'm also working on a couple of goodies for next week's update. Meanwhile, I've got some fun links, so... Open Thread!

DSII is coming....

One of my favorite action RPGs is Dungeon Siege. Well, the web site for the sequel is live, with a developer's journal, screenshots, promotional video, and music, with more goodies to come.

At PenguiCon, Les and I met web cartoonist Rob Balder. Very nice, very funny guy. If you didn't know about it before this, you need to bookmark his strip, Partially Clips (http://www.partiallyclips.com/). You need to bookmark it now.

Burger King has a really weird, kinda funny site, which you may have heard about. You need Flash to see it. It's supposedly a web cam on a guy in a chicken suit, who does what you tell him to do.

So all you freakos out there, shake your tail feathers and order around the Subservient Chicken (http://www.subservientchicken.com/).

Big interview at Magrathea (http://homepage.ntlworld.com/mjs2000/index.htm) about the movie version of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, which started principal photography Monday. Interesting casting choices, and I must admit I like Sam Rockwell as Zaphod.

No crowds.

No goofiness.

No Shatner.

Mark Dacascos as the new Chairman.

Alton Brown on commentary.

"Malto" Mario Batali.

Wolfgang Puck.

Bobby Flay.

Masaharu Morimoto.

Hiroyuki Sakai.

The real deal.

While some episodes are on earlier in the weekend, this Sunday at 6:00 pm EDT is when you should fire up the VCR or TiVo, aimed at the Food Network.

Laissez les bon temps roulez!

I tried to cadge some press tickets to the studio audience, only to be told that they did not have a studio audience. Disappointment on one level, but on another, quite the opposite! It looks more and more as if they are going for something much more like the Japanese original.

I have intercepted a rumor that "something remarkable happens" during Puck's show. I'm not sure what that is actually. Maybe, he wins?

Speaking of Food Network, I'm going to be on it, proving that Pie Are Not Square. Pix and 'splanation on my home page http://home.earthlink.net/~selene Short form: one of my SCA internet buddies put me on to these guys when they asked for an historical cooking maven in LA.

Lemme tell ya. The stupid HP DVD-RW drive screwed up so bad that trying to fix it took my other, non-writing DVD drive and the main hard drive. Part of it was definitely crap software (the ArcSoft b.s. bundled with the drive), and part of it was the mechanism itself going south in a big way.

Sucked it up, took the hit, bought a Plextor. Much happier now.
