It's a beautiful day out here in Ay-Squared. Good day musically. I think the new album is indeed gonna be out for ConGlomeration, and I'm gonna have a couple of things on it you simply won't believe until you hear 'em.

Have fun, play nice.

You have a Gmail account yet Tom? I've got a couple invites left if you don't (and want one). It sure puts that icky Yahoo email account to shame. :)

No, I haven't, and yes, I'd like one, please. Although the Yahoo just took a huge leap last week -- in an effort to compete with Gmail, my DSL Yahoo account now has two gigs of space.

Frankly, I don't see a downside with having both accounts. Either beats the crap out of Outlook (or any other download-based client, in my humble opinion). :)

Invitation sent. Yahoo being Yahoo, it might get tossed into your spam or bulk mail folders so if it doesn't come up, it may be hiding in there.

Why doesn't anyone visit MY livejournal?

Do I smell or something?

Over the Internet? God, I hope not.

I tend not to visit too many LJs for one simple reason -- it would be all I do. I've got a couple of friends who spend, like, three hours a night just on LJ stuff. Nothing at all wrong with that... but I'm trying to look for a job while recording an album. LJ would put me into negative time. :)

Do'nt feel bad lumpy, no one reads mine either. That doesn't mean it isn't enjoyable to just blurt publicly once in a while. Between email, usenet, web forums, and lj it would be real easy to waste your whole life away doing nothing but reading and replying to threads. Hrm, maybe its time for me to get some work done today...

Peter Lorre Centennial

My celebrity birthday list says that this Saturday, June 26 is the 100th birthday of Peter Lorre. If you are performing this weekend, you simply MUST perform that fave, WHEN I GROW UP I WANT TO BE PETER LORRE. I plan to at least lift a glass and toast with a spine-tingling giggle.

My youngest son (7 next week) does an absolutely wonderful Peter Lorre. Which is really disturbing coming from this very cute little boy. (Blame Spike Jones, and yeah I know that it isn't the real Peter Lorre on My Old Flame, although he did tour with them)

I'm raising my kids well.

Oh, and I am reading this LJ because after my show at Duckon a few weeks ago I was told that I was hot in the same way that Tom is hot. So I figgered I better become acquainted with who I am being compared to.

Apparantly so, or at least that is what I was told. It's in my Duckon report. I think that it is in her LJ too.

you had a pack of five screaming fangirls in the audience at the masquerade concert and you have to ask?? heck yeah, you're hot. an intelligent man with a real-life sense of humor, who's actually FUNNY, is, in our assorted 20-something opinions, QUITE hot.

Thanks very kindly. Unfortunately, it was almost impossible to see anything during the Masquerade, due to those darn kleig lights, so I'll have to look for the pack of you next MarCon. Heh heh heh. (Idle, ruefully-grinning thought: When I was in my 20s, I had women in their 40s tell me I was hot. Now I'm in my 40s, and women in their 20s tell me I'm hot. Whazzup wit' dat? :)

Paul Frees, if memory serves. You hear his basso profundo in most cartoon and voice-over, you tend to forget his other register entirely.

It's Clobberin' Time!

Susan, definitely a toon, which explains much about my life actually

Memory does indeed serve. Funny you should mention his higher-voiced work -- Frees had a hellacious variety of vocals (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0293659/). My vote for his best contrast is in Santa Claus Is Coming To Town, where he plays both Burgermeister Meisterburger and his flunkie Grimsby (along with some miscellaneous townsfolk). But his voiceover of literally most of the cast in the English dubbed version of Rodan is simply incredible. Not to mention being the "Ghost Host" of Disney's Haunted Mansion.

And, yeah, I still hear his voice in my head when I read Ben's dialogue in Fantastic Four. He was the only one who ever said that phrase right. (sigh)

Great Googly Moogly

From: [identity profile] filkertom.livejournal.com
Just checking out that IMDB listing above, and -- I'd forgotten completely! He also voiced Dr. Who... not the British guy with two hearts and nine or ten actors, but an evil Japanese warlord supervillain kinda guy in the amazingly bad-great but almost impossible to find camp classic King Kong Escapes (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0061868/). (It's real easy to find KK vs Godzilla, but that one isn't nearly as funny.)

11 Actors if you count the Peter Cuishing Movies and the replacement 1st Doctor in the 5 Doctors. Otherwise, its been 8 actors with a 9th confirmed to be in the new series they are planning on filming in the next year or so.

Speaking of the same: Yanno who got his start in show biz doing English language voice over for RODAN? George Takei. He is doing an appearance this week at a Godzilla 50th Anniversary Film festival in Hollywood.

"And, yeah, I still hear [Paul Frees'] voice in my head when I read Ben's dialogue in Fantastic Four. He was the only one who ever said that phrase right. (sigh)"

I understand that one of the very few castings that have been done so far for the Fantastic Four live action film is Michael Chiklis of "The Badge." I think he has got the right street-wise city guy attitude for the part! I expect he'll play Ben pre-change, and certainly still do the voice of The Thing. If they are smart they will have him do the motion-capture as well, so he moves just like the same person. But alas, are we not all smarter than the guys who actually make the movies? Cinematic armchair quarterbacking is one of the national sports of the Internet.

Looking this page over; I think we need a chat room.

I've got Der Burgermeister hanging on my rear-view mirror (from when Del Taco was giving out Rankin-Bass keychains)!

Frees is definately one of my favorites! Who could forget that HE did the voice of Ludvig Von Drake, my FAVORITE Disney character!

Alas, he's long gone, now, but with luck, I'll still be able to meet Stan Freberg.

I wanna do voice-overs and comic routines
I wanna sing silly songs

I can be a sea serpent with Beanie-Boy, or a puma that laughs "Hee-HEEEEEE!"

Or present the history of the U.S.A.,
With lyrics and shtick adroit,
An' a message for da peeple of Oit',
I'll be the "Eight tomatoes in that little can" giver,
Do one quick verse of "Elderly Man River",
Who knows what else? Delivered the Freberg wa-a-ay!

Freburg would laugh up a lung at all of this. He must have a web page someplace, somebody find him and tell him! He said at LosCon a few years ago [he was signing the Rhino BRAIN IN A BOX sci-fi music set] that he always wanted his own fans, like Trekkies - Freebies!

OK, maybe we'll have to make him listen to the Peter Lorre song too. That won't be hard either.

When I turn on my radio, or turn on my TV,
I can’t help but cringe at what passes for comedy
They’ve replaced quips and quirks
With curses, farts and burps
Vulgarity’s the thing today
And clever wit’s become passé
Howard Stern’s a buffoon
Dave Chapelle just makes me ache
I’d like to cut up Man-Cow into tiny little steaks
The golden days of yore
Did provide us so much more
And one gent had such debonair
With glasses thick and curly hair

In other news of the day...

There will be a soundtrack album for TREKKIES 2.

I spent an hour at the production office today, signing contracts as one of the backup singers for Leslie Fish's annual rendition of BANNED FROM ARGO which they filmed at last Con-Chord, then found myself helping out by identifying the other singers in that number.

Strange days indeed.
