Working on the album today, going to see Christine Lavin at The Ark tonight (with, among others, Steve Simmons, Mark Bernstein, [livejournal.com profile] huskiebear, and [livejournal.com profile] braider, and I'm on Dr. Demento this weekend. We can talk about whatever you guys want, but right now my life is music.

I'm very envious of anyone who goes to a Christine Lavin concert I can't attend. Have a great time! ([livejournal.com profile] braider said last night that she was intending to bring her knitting.)

So, are you going to do anything in response to the vice president's, um, er, uncivil exchange with Senator Leahy? Like ...

Oh, the pushers on the D.C. streets, addictions in their mittens
Or the lobbyists when frustrated, pounding on the loo.
And on the Senate floor, Dick Cheney when a-frothing.
It's from them I would expect to hear the f-word, not from you.

Hah! Last second, he changed his mind, and he did come. And we all had a great time. Christine was on tonight, and she was shticking all over the place, and running a knitting circle in the hall at intermission, and I and Steve and Mark Bernstein joined the Sensitive New Age Guys Choir, and she remembered me even though we haven't seen each other in a few years, and Les got a picture of me with Christine which I'll have up on the main site soon. Way, way, cool.

Considering you did "Wish I Couldn't Read Her Mind" I'm sure she remembers you. :-)

She was great. She asked if I'd sent stuff to Dr. Demento recently (she thanked him on her newest album, Sometimes Mother Really Does Know Best (http://www.christinelavin.com/motherknows.htm)). And her shtick has expanded amazingly -- her multichannel vocal sampler, wind chimes, a quiz bowl... great stuff.

I used to listen to Dr. D. every weekend, but in recent years I haven't been able to find it... do you know whether it's still being broadcast in Boston?

At least it was on there at all. AFAIK, Dr. Demento has never been on the radio in NYC. Or if he has, it was a very long time ago.

Which is why we have the Internet. ;) Jeff Morris's rec.music.dementia (http://php.indiana.edu/~jbmorris/) site has a hefty list of stations (http://php.indiana.edu/~jbmorris/FAQ/stations.html), including links to streaming audio.

Long time in NYC. I never listed to him when he did have air play in the area.. (Didn't know of it.)

I get the shows from the net when I want to listen to him.... Like this weekend's show with Tom..... :)

Dr. Demento in NYC

Hi, Tim Ryan here.

Dr. Demento had been on a number of stations in New York City and surroundings. One station, 103.5 FM, then WAPP, brought him back and celebrated with a special live show on March 2, 1986. see The Dr. Demento Show - March 2, 1986 in New York (http://mypage.iu.edu/~jbmorris/FAQ/drd86.0302.nyc.html). I was just listening to a couple of 1986 DrD shows that got fan recorded from that station later in 1986 yesterday and today.

Here in Ann Arbor, MI we have been without Dr. Demento since mid-May, 1998.

Can you believe it's been Five Years since it's been Five Years?

-Tim Ryan
