Thirty-five years ago today, Apollo 11 landed on the Moon. Relive those thrilling days of yesteryear at The Project Apollo Archive. (Thanks to Steve Jackson's Daily Illuminator for the link.)

Thirty-five years ago today I still wouldn't be born for another 5 months and 7 days.

(at least there's something around here that can make me feel young)

It's just wrong that you have to be an old coot like me to remember people walking on the moon.

(OK, 44 isn't *that* old, but still)

You're not that old. I'm just appreciating not feeling old for a couple minutes. I'll be ancient again very shortly.

My family was walking back to the car, having spent an excellent day at the Detroit Zoo, and we passed by a storefront with a TV in the window, and they were showing the LEM on the lunar surface with the screen flashing "THE EAGLE HAS LANDED". I couldn't have been more jacked if I'd had an IV of Chocolate Frosted Honey Bombs.

I was half asleep right before it happened....but I woke right up!

I was in an apartment (an upstairs apt, so it was REALLY hot)...there were about 8 of us crowded near a small TV...

BTW, Costco sells a three DVD set of all the vido and film footage. Well worth the $28 it costs.

I get to go to the anniversary celebration at air & space tonight.

That's the benefit of being a badged employee of NASA - even if it is only a temp job. <G> Hey Tom - want an anniversary sticker?

On the actual day, I was 5 years old & I remember watching it on my grandparents' new color tv. Pretty gold foil!

It's also my dad's Birthday. He's 66 today, IIRC.

My husband's father worked on the LEM - he was a troubleshooter @ Grumman. My _husband_ was in gestation at the time (born in jan '70) He's the one who studied to be a rocket scientist & I'm the one who works at NASA. <cue alanis!>

As I first told [livejournal.com profile] dagonell, I was at home, watching the tube (black-and-white; we didn't get a color TV until '72) and eating birthday cake. (It was cherry chip cake, if I remember correctly.) I can't remember the channel or network; it was probably CBS since I vaguely remember Walter Cronkite narrating or doing the commentary. But all three networks were covering it.
