As Movie City News puts it: "Mel's Worst Nightmare: God is a Lesbian Talk Show Host".

Ellen DeGeneres is looking to star in a remake of Oh, God!

That might actually be fun. (I really love the original. Great script, great cast [and, yes, I do include Denver].)

I only vaguely remember the first, but remember thinking at the time it had some good points. I agree, this sounds like a reasonable remake.

Let's see... George Burns and Sammy Davis Jr. are both dead, I think she'd do very well in the part and if God doesn't approve he can always send lighting to destroy the studio.

So whom do you like for the Denver role?

Mm. Several possibilities. It'll probably end up somebody from TV. I could make a case for Matt LeBlanc or Brett Butler pretty easily, or Nicholas Brendon (Xander from Buffy. Lauren Graham from Gilmore Girls could do it easy. Beyond that, I have no idea who the current likely sitcommish hotties are.

On the other side, wouldn't Rosie O'Donnell be a hoot as the televangelist?

Another one I could see? Seth Green. He has a flair for comedy and acting. And he can manage the kind of befuddled-but-loveable that made Denver endearing.

I agree with you on the original - Denver was perfect to play that role. He was so honestly befuddled, stupidly brave, and naively honest that you couldn't help but be on his side. And of course, George Burns was a piece of casting genius. It's still one of my all-time favorites.

{surfs over to North Am DVD's to find out if it's out on DVD yet...}

That describes him perfectly.

Denver's role will be a hard one to fill in the remake.

While I'm sure Degeneres will do a fine job in this role, I wish they had taken the opportunity to fix the worst mistake in Dogma: that of casting Alanis "It's ironic that `Ironic' isn't ironic" Morissette as God and only giving Janeane Garofalo a walk-on role. Should've been the other way around.

but you do have to appreciate the fact that it was alanis morrissette's voice that would kill any human who heard it. maybe not such a bad casting call, in that light. *shiver*

An excellent point, and one which had not escaped me.

ellen could play a decent god. but if they remake all three, can she play god AND the devil equally well?
tho as far as the right-wing nuts are considered, she IS the embodiment of all evil, so i don't think they'd call it acting.
