For some reason, I never jumped on the FarScape bandwagon. Nothing against it at all -- hell, you all know I'm kind of a fan of the Henson people. Just... I never really had the time to devote to it. Didn't think the return would be worth the investment.

This trailer is convincing me otherwise.

The TV-movies might be the best place to start then. Farscape was very good in the beginning, but the later seasons tended to be rather bizarro and opaque unless you were a long time fan. Though it was worth it just to see Chrichton's mental stability crumble to pieces, and the crumble to smaller and smaller pieces.

It was a show I always meant to watch if for no other reason than my devition to Henson projects.
I just started renting the DVDs this past summer while I was looking for work.
I got up to season 3 before my free time went to nil.
I'm hoping to finish out the run soon.

I REALLY REALLY am enjoying the show. As previously posted, the early seasons are great. The characters truly develop (and in some unexpected ways) and the stories are fantastic. I cannot speak to the later seasons but I WILL be watching them and the movie.

FarScape has more than once been referred to as the anti-Trek, and with good reason...it's a total departure from the established Trek-style, everybody-just-gets-along-oh-so-well brand of SF, and it's a breath of fresh air for those of us who prefer some drama and some imaginative writing mixed in with our action and special effects. Try it, you will not be disappointed!

This was just an outstanding show! It took science fiction and really did 180 degree twists on many topics. It took many risks with it's plot lines and had some of the best villains seen anywhere.

One of the best series of episodes was at the end where they really went back to earth and how earth reacted to “real aliens” on the planet.

So now for once you're catching up with me and Dan instead of vice-versa. Dan spent some time helping the lady who played Zahn (aka the blue plant lady aka the archer babe from Mad Max, sorry, drawing a blank on her name) set up her autograph table at Marcon. Hers was one of my favorite characters, but I suspect Dan may have liked her for other reasons...

It's a shame she isn't in it anymore. I heard the reason was that she was allergic to the makeup. I liked her too - saw her at Gen Con

Saw her at GenCon last year, and she is a truly sweet woman. She's also a Bond girl, she was in The Living Daylights with Dalton.

She's also a cat person and a terrific hugger. ;)

Farscape is definitely worth the time. It starts a little slow, but then morphs into a true serial with some really fantastic twists and turns. A good mix of action, drama and comedy, with more pop culture references than you can shake a stick at.

The serial style DOES make it difficult to pick up in the middle though. It's best to start at the start. Although from what I understand with Peacekeeper Wars they tried to make it work as a stand alone as well as finishing out the story arc that the Sci-Fi channel so rudely interrupted.

Ohhh, I should NOT get started about Sci-Fi Channel's rotten administrative decisions since Bonnie Hammer took over as network president. The theory seems to be, that less actual Sci-Fi on the Sci-Fi Channel makes it more "accessible to the general audience." What really frosts my hide is that the UFO and psychic crap is actually doing well in their ratings. Grrrrr.

Then there is what they did to several decent classic SF novels. Double Grrrrrrrrrr. I'm afraid to look at "Earthsea" later this year.

Isn't that the MTV theory? I'm old enough to remember when the M in MTV stood for "Music", and they actually showed videos.

You shouldn't, but it seems you did :)

Before we vilify her, let us also not forget that Farscape was one of Bonnie Hammer's children. She may have been involved in it's departure, but she's the one who brought it to us in the first place.

Hrmph. Well, that's as it may be, but still. Besides, there are plenty of other bad decisions to be lain upon her doorstep, such as the recent M. Night Shaymalamadingdong extended commercial for "The Village" dressed up as a "documentary," against all known broadcasting ethics. Feh, I say.

"Bad" is a relative term. Whether you or I as individuals like the programming is largely irrelevant. Sci Fi is making money. They are getting better ratings, and doing so fairly consistently. From an economic standpoint, there's not much "bad" to be seen there.

If we need to lay something at someone's feet, we need to lay bad taste at the feet of the American Public. Ms. Hammer seems to be successfully providing what they want. That's a crime?

The "documentary" is probably a really bad example. Shyamalan didn't object. In fact, I believe I read a quote where he admired the tactic.

In addition, it is the Science Fiction channel. You should be expecting fiction. If someone went into watching a show about a moviemaker so close to the release of the movie without expecting a plug for the movie... well, they fall into P.T. Barnum's "sucker" category. And in this case, the sucker didn't have to pay extra for the show!
