A Lesson In Here Somewhere

In this story about a man who, while teaching gun safety, shot himself, what gets me is not the circumstance, but his utterly clueless quote:

"It's an unfortunate accident," Toumey said. "I've always been very, very safe."

Isn't overconfidence the cause of many accidents? Goodness knows that's how I screw up. Reading this, all I can think of are jokes with punchlines like "Nope, no problem, I got i-", "They couldn't hit an elephant at this dis-", and "Hey, y'all! Watch this!"
