130 Approximate Number of countries (out of a total of 191 recognised by the United Nations) with a US military presence. I'm rather sceptial of this number, unless they are counting the US Marine Corp guards at embasies abroad. Or that there is a Liason team somehwere or some folks training together from time to time. I would like to know where he got some of the other numbers as well.
Not that I'm a big fan of Bush, but I'm somewhat skeptical of some of them.
Agreed. I'm pretty sure that some of these numbers are inaccurate, and a lot of them probably don't tell the whole picture.
The bit that made my slant-O-meter twitch was "$3.29 Average amount allocated per person Nationwide in the first round of homeland security grants." Being an uninformed American, I don't know how this money was spent. For all I know, the money was all spent at "choke points" such as airports, where a little improvement goes a long way.
As for the rest... let's just say there are a few questions I'd like to ask during Question Hour in Congress.
Hmm. The articles headlined "Robin Cook: What four more years of Bush would mean for us" and "Johann Hari: Why would a Wal-Mart shelf-stacker vote Bush?" look interesting, but they're pay-only.
I don't know. I HATE Bush and was loving this article as a way to debate those deluded individuals who are thinking of voting for him until I got to the last part. As a Born Again Christian myself, I sort of resent the way he ended that. Then again, I also resent how many people of my faith have been fooled into thinking a madman and hypocrite is a "man of God." *sigh*
Born Again Christians are Evangelicals. Evangelical = believing in the gifts of the Holy Spirit. Born Again Christians are a specific group that falls into that category. (Its sort of like all squares are Quadrangles but not all Quadrangles are squares kinda thing). Anyway the point is that the distinction doesn't really make a big difference. But thanks for trying to make me feel better.
As for Godspell, it is one of my all time favorite plays. I saw it once in High School but would kill to see it on Broadway. Its actually the only one of my "favorites" that I haven't gotten to see on Broadway, but I live and hope.
Out of curiousity, what is your all time favorite musical?
Hm. I admit that I thought the use of the phrase "born again" was rather generic, i.e., referring to accepting Jesus Christ as your personal savior no matter which flavor of Christianity you follow. I'll look into it, as I actually am curious about it all. (I've always thought religion should be taught in schools -- comparative religion, that is. :)
Favorite musical? Tough call, so you get a list.
I have several that all kinda bunch up at the top: Sondheim's Sweeney Todd and Assassins, The Broadway version of Disney's Beauty and the Beast, Little Shop of Horrors, Weird Romance, and The Music Man.
Right behind would be Tommy, Chess, Singin' In The Rain, Godspell, and The Wizard of Oz, followed at no great distance by West Side Story, The Rocky Horror Show, Metropolis, Moby Dick, and The Producers.
And I have great affection for Doonesbury, A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum, Mary Poppins, Avenue Q, and Fiddler On The Roof. (Special Achievement Award: Return to the Forbidden Planet.)
Please note that nothing involving Andrew Lloyd Webber is even on the list.

Date: 2004-09-08 12:22 pm (UTC)0 Number of American combat deaths in Germany after the Nazi surrender in May 1945.
37 Death toll of US soldiers in Iraq in May 2003, the month combat operations "officially" ended.
0 Number of coffins of dead soldiers returning home that the Bush administration has permitted to be photographed.
0 Number of memorial services for the returned dead that Bush has attended since the beginning of the war.
Failure and insensitivity to their failure.
Very nice.
