Good thing that Jack Black is clean shaven in this. His "cast picture" has him in a beard, looking uncommonly like his director!

Thing is, in the little footage I've seen, I think he can pull Denham off. And I cannot wait to see how Serkis does Kong (although I realize I probably will have to wait until they put, like, four seconds of it at the end of the second teaser).

They couldn't pull it off in '76 and they'll not do it now.

Possibly not. But I give Peter Jackson a hell of a lot better chance than Dino.

And he'll give us a better film than Dino.
But the original is almost a textbook example of how to produce a film that doesn't flag, that keeps up the pace until the final frames....
"Well the aeroplanes finally got him, Mr Denham"
"Oh no; it was Beauty... killed the Beast"

No argument. It really honks me off that it's not on DVD right now; I understand there's a restored print that debuted about two years ago.

Hmm.
It is on DVD over here in the UK...my copy cost about £8. I guess the R1/R2 split cuases problems on both sides of the pond...

First I have to say I Love Peter Jackson. He understands the value of Fans, and making these little videos for the website just shows that.

The Dino version of KK was just SO bad. But I have faith in Jackson. I'm loving the cast, I'm loving they he's setting it in the 30's cause fantasy still existed in the 30's. Huge Giant Gorrilas just can't exist in this day and age.. but in the 30's they could!

And this Friday.. "SKY CAPTAIN"!

The kewl thing about Sky Captain is that they are carrying the whole Retro thing throughout. Even the premiere last night was not just an ordinary cinema rental for some of the stars and a few paparazzi, but A Big! Boffo! Hollywood! Premiere! at the Grauman's Chinese Theatre with 75-foot robots out front and all the film's stars plus everybody who was anybody in attendance. I think we will break our usual rule and actually go see it on the first day.
