I'm getting a tad discouraged myself. I'm slowly becoming of the opinion that this is a really low-probability alternate universe, so nothing here really matters anyway. It's not like it's real anymore.

Come on. So-called "real life" is stranger than fiction, because fiction has to make sense. Take the real history of the space program. The first man to walk on the moon was Neil Armstrong, All-American Boy and his faithful sidekick Buzz. The first American woman in space was Ride, Sally Ride. Who writes this crap? Come on, it's all a joke universe.

Why then is it not funnier?

signed, Susan, overly philosophical today

I haven't given up on Kerry -- he's making progress. Some polls show him 1 point ahead of Bush. Things are dire but not over yet. The campaign needs more volunteers, though. People knocking on doors, making phone calls, etc., makes a huge difference.

Also, I and some friends have just launched a website, www.kerryoniraqwar.com, to fight the Republican spin on Kerry's position on Iraq. Iraq is a crucial issue in this campaign, and if we can turn things around in the next month in terms of who's telling the truth on Iraq and who isn't, it can change everything. It would help if people visit the site and get the word out by telling people about the site and posting the banner and slogan in LJs and on their webpages.

The truth about John Kerry's consistent position on the Iraq war. John Kerry hasn't been flip-flopping. George Bush just hasn't been listening.

Don't forget a lot of the polls lie -- it's psychological warfare to promote Bush by getting Dems too discouraged to fight back. Seriously.

okay, my brain hurts now.

The cnn editorial that huskie bear points to is written by bob barr.

and I agree with it.

This is the SAME bob barr that wanted to deny Wiccans the right to freely practice our religion on army bases.

Which I do not agree with.

OUCH.

whose brain is rearranging more? Mr. Barr used to be a very staunch supporter of shrub & co, IIRC.

The article you link to suggests that four mour years of Bush might be what it takes to get the country to realize that things need to really change. I might be able to accept that it was necessary pain if I thought the country and the world would actually survive. Unfortunately, I think the situation is already so dire that we can't afford to take four more years to wake up.

That's actually what I think. I'm trying to make the best of a potentially catastrophic success: The dire, hideous, real possibility that the Thief-in-Chief might be elected.

Lacking a recent-enough open thread...

I was rather amused at http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2004/09/20040915-3.html -- note that McClellan never says anything more damning than "questions have been raised" about the CBS memos.

Im trying to find the artical in which some snaggle-toothed Repub's have decided there's only one way to get rid of these moronic Republicans. Let em win, and let Bush ruin the party.

Had something to do with british politics, looked like a good peice...

Of course, now that we can all own AK-47s, I'm beginning to wonder if some crazy might not be thinking of a more direct route to solving these problems.
