An upcoming military first-person shooter, Kuma\War: The War On Terror, will have a mission entitled "John Kerry and the men of Swift Boat PCF-94".

(Speaking strictly as a gamer, I must admit it looks interesting as all get-out. Decent graphics, too.)

Hm, that's almost *too* ripped-from-the-headlines relevant for my taste. Not to give the other party any ideas, but imagine how insidious the propaganda effect on young male voters could be if a popular video game version of a current Presidential candidate suddenly, at a moment of crisis, had some sort of, er, failure...

(No, I don't watch a lot of conspiracy movies, I just play a paranoid off TV.)

Interestingly enough, they're simultaneously coming out with a simulation of the Incumbent's Vietnam experience.

It's called "Virtual Bar-Games Online"!

That makes me twitch a little bit. Like it's disrespectful of anyone who died in that battle, but not quite that. May post another comment if I can find the words.

In the strategy game area, I saw some game on the shelves the other day in which you have to plan a winning campaign for either Bush or Kerry. It looked interesting, but not interesting enough to shell out the $40 or whatever it cost.

I'm pretty sure you can download a demo that lets you play through the first 12 weeks.

This looks like it.

Thanks for prompting me to look for it.

So, what does Kerry's service in 'Nam have to do with the War on Terror?

Well, if he wins, he'll be inheriting the responsibility to oversee it.

Not too much directly. However, the actions of a leader who has faced actual combat are going to be different from the actions of a leader who has not. Certainly he will think differently about sending soldiers into a war that they are not allowed to win. :-/
