Just go here and watch. If this doesn't break your heart, even just a little, I don't know that I want to know you.

...okay, as if i didn't have enough reasons to hate the war and be angry against all that's led us to it, i can add "video that made me bawl like a little girl" to the list. damn. it just all kinda brings it home to those of us who haven't (yet) lost a loved one to the Sandbox.
thanks for posting that, tom. i know several people who need to see it.

It does hurt. I still have a copy of the Nightline special of Ted Koppel reading the names of the dead soldiers up to that point. I was a little shaky up until the point where they broadcast a picture of a guy with his newborn baby. Then I started bawling unashamedly.

We're losing good people over there, and so far nobody really has been able to impress upon Dubya why this is a bad thing.

The part about him going to funerals does ignore the fact that no sitting President, to the best of my knowledge, has ever attended an individual soldier's funeral--it wouldn't be fair. If he did it for one, he'd have to do it for all.

And Dubya doesn't have that kind of time--not with his busy vacation schedule.

Actually, it appears that LBJ did indeed do it twice (http://www.hnn.us/articles/1784.html).

It breaks my heart, and it also makes me MAD. This, along with all the other developments coming from BushCo this week, prompted me to take the American flag magnet that I have had on the back of my car for sometime now and turn it upside down...a sign of a nation in distress, and an administration I would not be proud to call the leaders of MY country.

This is not the America I know and love.

I am NOT proud to be an American right now.

In the words of King Theoden in TTT, "How did it come to this?"

to paraphrase a bumper sticker i saw once, i love my country; it's my government that scares the hell out of me.
