Between PayPal donations and auction bids, the goal has been reached.

The bids continue on a number of auctions, however, including mine, so you can still kick in to help the guy.

Any particular cause of yours that needs a li'l pimping? A friend in need, an underappreciated charity, a noble idea? Link 'em up.

Congrats! I wish we were anywhere near being able to donate anything to such causes.

I plan, as soon as money starts rolling in, to donate to one of my favorites..by purchasing the many home concerts I saw some guy put up on his website. ;-)

As far as underappreciated charities (aside from the current our survival fund), I tend to always look at the EFF. They've done a lot of good.

Indeed, and I should promote them more myself. Let's start now (http://www.eff.org/).

There's always the 3 Day Walk for Breast Cancer Research and Awareness that I'm doing next summer - http://www.the3day.org/goto/drbecky

I was honestly going to ask you to donate a song to be auctioned off as a fundraiser, but I never got the chance at OVFF, and it seems someone scooped my idea. :)

What, for the thing next summer? Consider it done. :)

Whoa.

Thank you - thank you so much! It's far enough away that we don't need to worry about this now; I'm figuring on starting heavy-duty fundraising next year. And I need to figure out the best way to run an auction. But this is *amazing* and it means a lot to me. :)

You really made my day with this.

My pleasure, sweetie. Just remind me as we get closer, and we can work out the details.

Get Pumped Online is a newly formed group that is trying to help provide donor milk for breastfed infants whose mothers have died. It was started out of necessity:

"On September 24, 2009, the lives of Ivan and Sara were changed forever. Jennifer, Ivan's wife and Sara's mother, unexpectedly passed away in her sleep. Jennifer was 33, and baby Sara was only 6 weeks old. Suddenly, Ivan's life was turned upside down. One of the most pressing issues was how he would feed his infant daughter, since Sara was breastfed." (from the Get Pumped website).

Get Pumped was started by a friend of mine, who lives two houses down from Ivan. To date, she has organized mothers all around Central Florida and from as far away as North Carolina, and provided almost 2000 ounces of milk for baby Sara, who is thriving. She is now seeking 501(c)3 status so that she can expand this effort to help others.

Okay, I don't know this person myself, but followed a link from a save_dave commenter and wanted to boost the signal for them...

Having had two cats (one white, no less!) who could have been poster children for creatures able to be picked up by anyone -- even strangers -- and radiate calm and love, I have a soft spot for Diamond.

Thank you for the link to this!

I was lucky enough to make a few dollars last week, so I had a few dollars to give. And I totally understand her plight.

right after you poasted for ours, all heck broke loose, so here's a signal boost.

Even if Your Readers can't donate: Please post the link in your own LJ, facebook, blog, twitter (#helpthehamiltons) and so forth. If everyone who saw the link sent in just $1, it would make a huge difference :)

Every month, my band (http://music.ebenbrooks.com/) hosts a multi-artist concert called Heroes Against Hunger (http://music.ebenbrooks.com/heroes.html) which collects money and food for The San Diego Food Bank (http://www.sandiegofoodbank.org/). If anyone on your list is in the San Diego area or its environs and can come to the show on Sunday, November 1st, they would be most welcome. If they can't come, or if they're too far away, please exhort them to donate to a food bank in their neighborhood. Hunger is a bitch.

I give monthly to the ASPCA and when I buy cat food at Petsmart I make a donation for their charities. Helping people is very important and so is helping animals. As a species we have adopted them and they're our responsibility. Our pets have given us so much and they need help along with their human caregivers.

Also I'd like to give a shout out for People's Resource (http://peoplesrc.org/) which is WindyCon's charity this year.

There are 2 local no-kill shelters that can always use help. I've adopted cats from both of them in the past.

The five I put up in my Birthday post (because while I'm an indigent and disable creative who could use a shitload of help -- not the least for a new mattress -- there are hundreds of causes that are doing incredible work and in desperate need of funding):

Soi Dog Foundation, Phuket, Thailand (http://www.soidog-foundation.org/)
(Rescuing dogs in Thailand, and doing so without government funding of any kind)

charity:water (http://www.charitywater.org/donate/index.php)
(freshwater projects where they're needed)

Water1st International (http://www.water1st.org/donate/index.html)
(also creating safe water supplies where they're needed)

HOPE Animal Shelter (http://hopeanimalshelter.net/)
(Tucson's only no-kill shelter for both cats and dogs)

The Elephant Sanctuary (http://www.elephants.com/estore/views.php?cat=6^21&sub_link=membership&desc=Membership%20and%20Donations&menu_oid=6)
(based in Tennessee; the site never fails to make me smile)
