From [livejournal.com profile] officialgaiman comes word of a new blog, Suspension of Disbelief, that intends to fact-check comic books. This is A Good Thing, and it's done in an entertaining and sardonic style. (The Teen Titans Go! cover by Dave Bullock is physically painful to look at, and this blog tells you why.)

I've never understood that. If you want realism, look out the window. They're comics, for God's sake.

Not realism so much as verisimilitude. Yeah, we're dealing with impossibilities, but they have to be framed in the plausible -- and the really stupid mistakes (e.g., wristwatches on Roman Legionnaires) are the ones that drag you out of the story.

Well, even without reading, I looked at that picture and said, "OK, that's one hero who's about to lose a finger..."

Not so much a No Prize.

For the no-prize, it's not enough to state what's wrong; you also have to come up with a plausible explanation for why the depiction works.
